Refund

I purchased a set of Bose wireless headphones from the Best Buy in Alexandria VA.  They did not really work for me so I returned them back to the store five days later.  The purchase was made with a debit card and when purchased the store received their money before I even walked out of the store.  It was instant.  When I returned the product why do I need to wait 5 to 10 business days for my money to be returned to me.  As far as I am concerned if they can take your money right away they should be able to give you your money back right away.  They keep my money for a week and I have nothing to show for it.  This is nothing more then Best Buy forcing me to give them a loan.  Other retailers, when returning a purchase made with my debit card have given me a choice of whether i wanted it back on my card or returned in case.  Why should Best Buy keep my money.  I didn't keep their product for an extra 5 to 10 business days.  When speaking to the costumer service line all they did is refer me to the store manager and the store manager refered me back to costumer service line.  I looked at the refund policy and all it says is that the money will be refunded in the same way you paid for them.  Well I paid for them right away but I did not get my money back right away.  In my bank my money earns interest, they are not willing to pay me interest on it are they?  So bottom line is that I am forced to give Best Buy a loan for a week or two and they are not going to pay me interest on this loan.

Re: Refund

This is a standard process for how Debit Cards work.  While you may have seen movement within your account immediately upon purchase, this is for your benefit as it prevents overdrafts.  Best Buy did not receive the funds until the processing was complete which takes a few days.  Upon making a return, your bank was sent the electronic info and settled at the end of the day's business.  Once that happens, we generally encourage customers to reach out to the bank as they ultimately decide how long to hold the funds until they reapply to the account in question.  Mine has it back in around 3 days, some smaller banks have been known to take 30 days, while the average falls in the 5-7 day time frame. Hope this helps clarify the process.

Re: Refund

Thanks for the corperate line.  I have used a debit card and returned things to other stores and they have refunded the next day or given me a option for a case refund.  My bank does not hold the funds for any reason (I have checked with them). the the fact thar it takes that long is all on best buy and i think it's wrong.I will patiently wait this time and then no longer do business with Best Buy and encourage others ot avoid it also.

Re: Refund

Hello suarez10,

Welcome to our community.  Like you, I trust that whenever a product doesn’t meet my needs or work as anticipated, I will receive a replacement product or a refund in a timely manner.

@jdogg836 pretty much hit the nail on the head here.  Once a refund has been processed at a Best Buy store, it is up to your financial institution to return the funds to your account.  While the process can take up to one full billing cycle, it generally doesn’t take more than a few business days from start to finish.  We certainly appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience this situation created for you.
