Re: eGift Card Authorization Failed

[ Edited ]

Hey jtroi,

Did KyleR ever help you with this?

I'm running into the same exact problem as you did in December.

I received a $200 virtual Visa gift card (came from verified source - Coworker) and tried buying AirPod Pros, via PayPal by Best Buy's Cashstar.

When I was finalizing my purchase via PayPal by BB's Cashstar E-Gift card services, the system also said, "Failed Authorization."

My horror was realized when I checked my Visa gift card balance and it saying $0.

I checked on PayPal and this is what it shows:

{removed per forum guidelines}

I also dealt with multiple rude, untrained Customer Service Representives, (and a escalation manager) that did nothing to help with the fact that my money is in limbo.

This is absolutely unacceptable, especially when you are a Best Buy Elete Member that has spent over $1500 worth of purchases. 😒

Re: eGift Card Authorization Failed

Good afternoon, LarryChiem,

Welcome to our forums, and thank you for sharing your experience with us.  I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having some issues placing your order with us, and your calls to our phone support teams have not yielded the answers you were hoping for.

I’d like to make sure we’re on the same page going forward, so I can better assist.  You mention you were trying to purchase some AirPod Pros with your virtual Visa gift card, however, you’ve also indicated you were attempting to pay via your PayPal account by Cashstar’s e-gift card services.  To clarify, Cashstar is a third-party company that generates Best Buy’s e-gift cards, which would lead me to believe you were attempting to purchase a Best Buy e-gift card with your Visa gift card as well, but that remains unclear.  Additionally, we’re unable to split payment methods on an order between a credit card and a PayPal account on BestBuy.com, which could explain the failed authorization message you’ve described receiving as well.

Would you be able to clarify what you were attempting to purchase with us, and the method of payment you were attempting to use in order to do so?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Hi SeanM,

Thank you for replying in timely manner.

Yes,

let me clarify from my last post and say that I was using PayPal as a single point of transaction from Coin Star and the card that is on my PayPal account is a Vanilla Visa E-Gift Card  that was Purchased by a colleague of mine.

I was trying to buy a Best Buy E-Gift Card with a Vinalla Visa E-Gift Card to myself in order to Purchase AirPods Pro physically in store due to the store not accepting my Vinalla Visa E-Gift Card because it's not a physical card.

Re: eGift Card Authorization Failed

When I tried going through CashStar's payment Daemon, the Vanilla Visa E-Gift Card had failed, and tried using the same Vanilla Visa E-Gift Card with their PayPal method.

When I tried going through the PayPal method of CashStar with the Vanilla Visa E-Gift Card Attached to my PayPal account,

From CashStar's website, I was redirected to PayPal, inserted my PayPal details ad when I went back to confirm my purchase, it said, "the Authorization had failed" on CashStar's website.

When I looked to my PayPal account, it had authorized $200 dollars to CashStar and currently, PayPal is saying that it's "Pending Authorization" on CashStar.

Re: eGift Card Authorization Failed

Welcome back, LarryChiem,

Thank you for getting back to me with this information.  Because CashStar is a third-party partner we utilize to distribute our e-gift cards, we’ll be unable to review any orders you have with them, or pending authorizations that they may have placed on your PayPal account.  As such, I recommend connecting with CashStar’s Customer Support team to look into this matter further, which you can do here.

Regards,

Re: eGift Card Authorization Failed

Hi Sean,

I already did went to CashStar and they said to contact Best Buy and I have went to PayPal already and they said to Concact the merchant.

I am really displeased with the service runaround that I am getting and will be considering to move my purchases elsewhere.

Hello, LarryChiem,

Re: eGift Card Authorization Failed

Hi Sean,

The issue that I currently have with that is I never received an order confirmation, Order Number, Best Buy Order Number and the only thing that I currently have is a Transaction ID by PayPal.

Others have been helped throughout the forms and would suggest Best Buy to potentially look for a new Gift Card Vendor due to amount of posts that have issues with this.

Re: eGift Card Authorization Failed

CoinStar Said That They Will Not look into my case due to me not having an Order Number.
