Re: PS5 sweepstake

I received a text message with Best Buy’s logo asking me to enter a sweepstake that is for selected members done every Monday. It’s for a FREE PS5. It’s too obvious of a scam. I wanted to put it out there for people who may come across this text message by “givegiftlove.com”. It also includes reviews from random people to make you believe it’s real. Then it asks you to pay $1.00 to some company for a 3day subscription!!! Best Buy should put a disclaimer that refutes this claim and warn your customers to avoid such scam. I tried googling this info and couldn’t find anything. PLEASE LET CONSUMERS KNOW ABOUT THIS SCAM!

Re: PS5 sweepstake

Hey, Naturalgal3,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this! I can certainly understand your concern, and while a free PS5 sounds awesome, Best Buy is not offering any sweepstakes for the console at this time. Thank you for letting us know about this.

Scammers can fake caller ID, name tags, receipts, and email address information which can trick people into thinking that they are legitimate. If you are ever asked for personal information or feel unsure about a call or text, you would want to hang up and call the business yourself to make sure that it was legitimate. These same general rules apply to emails, if something ever seems weird, or you are being asked to pay in a different currency, please contact the business directly.

We also have some pointers available on our forums that may help you to protect yourself in the future here.

Best,

Re: PS5 sweepstake

I got the same text today. I did make a purchase recently through Best Buy online. Kinda nerve-racking. #breached

Probable Scam for Free PS5

To Whom it May Concern,

I received a text message this evening that said to click a link to see if I won a free PS5. I deleted the text, but the area code was 224. Hope this helps!

Re: Probable Scam for Free PS5

From another post where this topic came up:

Scammers can fake caller ID, name tags, receipts, and email address information which can trick people into thinking that they are legitimate. If you are ever asked for personal information or feel unsure about a call or text, you would want to hang up and call the business yourself to make sure that it was legitimate. Unfortunately, scammers can spoof anybody via phone, text, or email.  This is similar to someone in the real world pretending to be someone they are not.  Stay vigilant and look for pointers that suggest these are fake.  Report what details you can to the police and FTC, they are better equipped to help stop scams.  Unfortunately, these scams do not utilize Best Buy controlled property in any way, which prevents Best Buy from acting on it. The name of the company giving it away changes all the time, tomorrow the same scammers may say it's WalMart giving away the PS5.  The entire premise of this scam is they change rapidly to avoid being caught.

Hope this helps.

Re: PS5 sweepstake

Same thing happened to me. I got the txt about 40 min after the item I had ordered from BestBuy was delivered.
