Re: How do I contact the fraud department in future

I recieved a fraudulent Email. also

It claimed it was time to renew my "maintenance account" for $382+

I have never had an account here. I called the Best Buy 800 Number and spoke with someone.

She confirmed that I am not a customer and suggested I contact Abuse Bestbuy.com.

Just want to let you know that I too recieved fraudulent Email. I am a Senior Citizen and unfortunately have been scammed in the past so , of course, I am much more careful now!

Thank you.

Re: How do I contact the fraud department in future

Thank you for posting!

I appreciate you reaching out to us and letting us know about these e-mails you have received. I can certainly understand your concern about receiving these e-mails. Scammers can fake caller ID, name tags, receipts, and e-mail address information, which can trick people into thinking that they are legitimate. If you are ever asked for personal information or feel unsure about a call, you would want to hang up and call the business yourself to make sure that it was legitimate. These same general rules apply to e-mails, if something ever seems weird, or you are being asked to pay in a different currency, please contact the business directly. You can find out more here: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2016/05/scammers-can-fake-caller-id-info.

Also, great work forwarding that e-mail to Abuse@bestbuy.com so, we can further review it. You can also find some more details here. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance!

Kind regards,

Re: How do I contact the fraud department in future

[ Edited ]

I received a text message today, March 16, 2022, from telephone #{removed per forum guidelines} stating that I had been charged $189.99 for Geek Squad renewal, transaction #GCK7760, and to call {removed per forum guidelines} if I had any questions. I called the number and was told I needed a form to cancel. Was told to go to play Store and install Any Desk to get said form. It was asking too many questions and I began to see red flags. They also wanted me to go to my bank account in order to receive my refund. Would not do it...told them I was going to report them and the person I was speaking with gave me a badge number, GKAgent 007958. I hung up and called Best Buy directly and was told it was a scam and to report it to abuse@bestbuy.com
