Re: BB Credit Card: Associate Lied to me about hard Inquiry

I was just lied to about the same thing at the Mountain View, CA store. The cashier Michelle pushed the store card on me saying it was a "soft pull" not a "hard pull". Got a message from Experian that I had a new "hard pull" on my credit report! This affects my credit score! I was lied to by your employee and now my credit score will go down. What are you going to do to resolve this?

The moderators should be able to take down your concerns and send it back to the store to ensure their employees are providing accurate information.

FYI - Any sort of credit pre-approval and many credit report services are provided using a "soft pull"  If you apply, on paper or electronically, for credit this is almost ALWAYS a hard pull.  Even companies that try to pre-approve you using a "soft pull" end up becoming a "hard pull" the moment you accept and the line of credit is opened.

Funny, that's not what your employee told me

Also, this reads like you think I was stupid not to know your employee was lying to me. So thanks for that

Re: BB Credit Card: Associate Lied to me about hard Inquiry

I was clear that the moderators would be by to address the concern and that they should be able to cascade the issue to the store leadership. Employees should be providing accurate information and in many instances they associate might not have received proper training. It’s clear from my own personal experiences that very few people truly understand how credit works and it is my intent at every opportunity to teach what I have learned.

The use of FYI is in the traditional “For Your Information” sense, not the social media “I’m going to be condescending” way. I personally do not trust ANYONE to have my best interest in mind when it comes to credit score. I learned that first hand when I got pre-approved for a home loan and the loan officer stated a house payment that I could afford. I did the math, and it was $200 higher than I could afford. This was during the bubble right before the housing crisis, he strongly encouraged me to take out an adjustable rate loan. At 24, I held fast to what I knew I could afford and took out a fixed rate loan. Within a few years, I was proven correct on all accounts. Don’t assume the person knows what they are talking about, don’t assume the person has your best interest in mind. The information I provided is universal, if you fill out for and accept a new line of credit you will take a hard hit. Generally speaking, depending on your current available credit, the line of credit *should* offset the hard hit. Available credit and credit utilization are higher weights on your credit score while a hard hit is generally lower, unless you’ve had excessive credit checks in the last 2 years.

Hope this helps clarify my intent.
