Protection plan and paid TV installation/mount vs Total Tech

We are considering buying a Samsung 70" TV from Best Buy and have looked at all of the information about Protection Plans and Total Tech.  We understand that Total Tech includes free TV installation and mounting.  Total Tech gives a two year protection plan BUT Total Tech must be renewed for the second year to actually get 24 months - and that means this all costs a total of $399.98.  If we paid Best Buy to install and mount the television that costs the same $199.99 that Total Tech costs and then if at the time of purchase of the TV we take the 5 year protection plan from Best Buy - we have five years of the same protection coverage as Total Tech at a cost of $199.99 for the installation and mounting plus $139 for the five yare protection plan for a total of tive year coverage and install for $339. We don't want the discounts or the other services from Total Tech - we are most concerned about protecting our new television for as long as possible without paying more than  a new TV renewing the Total Tech for five years.  Someone please make sense of this all. I have never encountered extended warranty plans like this where one must pay $200 every year to maintain it. We have bought a lot of appliances and electrionics.  Maybe we are missing something.  Can one take Total Tech for one year adn then get the five year Geek Squad protection plan?

Pretty sure Total Tech is it's own sku, unrelated to other purchases. Can't you buy total tech separately under one transaction, then the tv plus protection plan under a different transaction?

Re: Protection plan and paid TV installation/mount vs Total Tech

From what I read if you have Total Tech it removes other protection plans. And this transaction would all occur at the store in one transaction and all must be purchased with the television or other item to be covered.

Re: Protection plan and paid TV installation/mount vs Total Tech

There is a process to remove the “Best Buy Protection” included with Total Tech and ring up the paid Geek Squad Protection. To my knowledge, this can only be done in person and not online. It will require 2 transactions, but it can be done. There is a job aid available for employees to look up if they don’t know how to do it.

Re: Protection plan and paid TV installation/mount vs Total Tech

I purcased a new LG OLED last summer.

For the $200 of Total Tech I got installation and 2 years coverage.

However, what Total Tech does for you is also get you coverage on almost anything else you purchase over the next 2 years.

If you do not intend to  purhase anything else in the next 2 years then going without Total Tech may be the better way to go.

$478 will get you install and 5 years.

For me on my personaly buying habits since I got TT in August my account shows that TT has saved me $387.32 in savings that my membership gave me (including that TV)

Re: Protection plan and paid TV installation/mount vs Total Tech

Total Tech is $199.00 PER YEAR. If Total Tech is not renewed (per Best Buy website) the second year of protection on the item purchased does not apply. That is a total of $398 to protect a $649 television set for two years. They say two years protection IF TOTAL TECH IS ACTIVE - so if you cancel at the second year what you got was the one year warranty that came from Samsung on the television. We do not plan to make any significant purchases from Best Buy after this TV - we barely can afford the TV. And at this point we are not sure now we are buying the TV.
