Open box order iMac--not wiped?!

While I was setting up my new open box iMac, I discovered that there was still data on the hard drive from a previous user. There were names and pictures of people I don’t know!

Since I assumed that the hard drive was new or wiped, I just transferred the information from my old iMac, which I bought new in 2010.

I really don’t want to erase this hard drive and start again, so I am going through manually to find anything that is not from my old iMac.

Needless to say, I am disappointed and frustrated that this slipped through Best Buy’s processes, and I don’t know if I would feel comfortable referring future customers to you.

Re: Open box order iMac--not wiped?!

Hi there, kfattor,

Welcome to our Best Buy forum community! While I wish you were connecting with us under happier circumstances, I'm glad that you took the time to bring this to our attention. Getting an open-box item is a great way to save some money, so I'm glad to hear that you decided to go that route. However, the experience you described is a far cry from the one we intended to provide!

I know how I would feel if my new purchase still had data from the last user, so it hurts me to learn that occurred with your purchase. Our open-box products are supposed to be tested by Geek Squad before being put on the market to avoid anyone being in this type of situation, so I'm confused as to how this happened.

While I wish that your shopping experience had gone differently, I'm glad you shared this with us so we can try to turn things around. Can you please send over your full name, phone number, email and order number using the "Private Message" option in my signature below, so we can get started on looking into this further?

Cheers,
