Lost store credit

I lost a store credit gift card and I have the original receipt. I tried calling customer support because it says Best Buy will replace it for me but they said they couldn’t. How can I get this card replaced?

Was the receipt used to verify the card's balance?  As gift cards/store credits are treated like cash, they can only replace up to the balance remaining.  If someone found and used the balance, it would be ineligible for replacement.

They told me if I didn’t have the card number then I could not have it replaced. They didn’t even ask for the original receipt number which I have to verify the balance.

Typically that is how it works if you do not have the card number its gone. As discussed by another forum member it is treated like cash. This is done to protect the security of the card.
