Gift card issues

I am having problems with 3 gift cards.

 

1. I purchased a $50 gift card at my local Stop and Shop ( they were haveing a great Promotion) and the gift card says it's not activated. I have the gift activaton receipt saying that it was activated and all of the packaging. How do I get it activated?

 

2. I purchased a gift card at Stop and Shop when they were having a different promotion. That gift card also says it's not acitvated. I'm not sure if it's a $50 or $100. I also threw out the packaging. I do have some gift card activation receipts but I don't know which one goes to that gift card and I'm not even sure if I still have that receipt.

 

3. I made an online purchase at Best Buy using some gift cards (one of which was a gift card from problem 1 bought in the same transaction as this issue), It said that it Failed authorization. I called up the help number and they said it was used. I asked when it was used and they said the time that I had used it for my order. But it failed authorization. So I was confused and I cancelled my order hoping that the funds would return to the card. It returned to my other cards but not to this. I have a screenshot of this transaction because I canceled it.

 

Please help.

It’s discouraging to learn that your gift card may not have been activated at the time it was purchased. For that issue, I recommend you bring them back to the store they were purchased for further assistance.

 

Regarding your online purchase, it seems that the issue you are running into is your form of payment. Best Buy is now limiting how Best Buy gift cards can be used to purchase other third-party gift cards to cut down on inappropriate and in some cases fraudulent use of gift cards. 

 

Many retailers have made similar changes or are in the process of doing so. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause you. Best Buy gift cards can still be used on our huge selection of technology products and services we sell in store and online, and customers can continue to purchase all gift cards using other payment methods.

I appreciate you finally responding.

 

Issue 1 and 3 were resolved. I went back to the store and it was activated. (and I was not purchasing 3rd party gift cards with a gift card. I was buying merchandise.)

 

I still have an issue with #2.

 

I purchased a lot of gift cards. I took off the packaging. I went to Best Buy to make a purchase. 1 of the gift cards was not activated. I have the activation papers but I don't know which acitvation paper goes with the gift card since the number on the activation paper is different then what is on the gift card. It's a number that was on the packaging that I unfortunately threw out. (lesson learned!) Is there a way to match up the gift card to the activation receipt so that I can go back to the store?

Unfortunately, because the gift card was purchased through a third party like your local Stop and Shop, we do not have access to their system that activated it. Therefore, you will need to bring it back into the Stop and Shop you purchased it at.

I don't think you understand.  I can't go back to the store because I don't know which activation slip goes with that gift card because I threw away the cardboard packaging that has the number that corresponds to the activation slip. The activation slip does not have the gift card number on it. It has the cardboard packaging number that the gift card came in.

 

Whoever manufactures Best Buy gift cards must have a system that knows which gift card pakcaging numbers go with which gift card number.  And I am sure there is a department within Best Buy that has access to this information.

The system that would track them would be where it was sold, ERK. Therefore, you will need to address your situation with the store where you purchased the gift cards. I wish there was more I could do for you. If you have any other questions or concerns not pertaining to this situation, to let us know.

If I give you the gift card number (privatley) can you give the bar code that corresponds to the gift card number? With the bar code number, I can match it to my receipt and then go back to Stop and Shop.

Unfortunately, we are not able to, ERK. You will need to work with your selling store regarding your gift cards, as they are in the best position to assist you.
