Gift Card Scratched

Hello, earlier today I found an old BestBuy gift card that had yet to be scratched off. Though while scratching I pushed a little too hard and now can't read the pin code. Is there a way I can find the pin via the card number? I do not know when I got this card nor who purchased it.

Would really appreciate the help.

Re: Gift Card Scratched

Good morning, dman3355,

Welcome to our forums!  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally scratched a number or two off my gift cards when it’s time to redeem them, so I can certainly understand the predicament you’re in.  With that said, you’ve come to the right place for help, and I’ll be happy to assist!

To answer your question, the only place the PIN is stored would be on the back of the card itself.  So while I may be able to locate the 16-digit card number given a few pieces of additional information, the PIN is not stored electronically anywhere.

Because of this, we may need to replace the gift card, but just so you’re aware, we’ll only be able to reissue the card for the remaining balance, with original proof of purchase.  This is outlined in our gift card terms and conditions, which you’ll be able to check out here.

I’ll be happy to take a closer look into this gift card and see what options might be available, but I’ll need a few pieces of additional information from you in order to do so.  If you could use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature to send me:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • Your 16-digit gift card number

As mentioned, be sure to use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature, and if you’re accessing our site on a mobile device, you may need to switch to “Full” or “Desktop” view before this button is visible to you.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
