Geek Squad Support - Scam Alert

[ Edited ]

A friend of mine received an e-mail from this comapny, and months ago he actually paid them and they locked him out of his laptop... I wanted to report this here since there seems to be a rise in these scams... I removed his personal e-mail & other info from this e-mail...

Re: Geek Squad Support - Scam Alert

Good afternoon, KeithHayes,

I appreciate you joining our Community to share this information with us.  Be it your own information, your friend’s, or anyone else, I know how important it is to keep your private information safe, and avoid falling for any potential scams, so I’m glad you took the time to follow up with us regarding the email your friend received.

Though we’ve removed much of the sensitive information from the public view of our forums, this email does not appear to be associated with Best Buy, or our Geek Squad in any way.  With that said, I’ll be fully documenting this email at our Corporate Headquarters, and forwarding the information contained within this email to the appropriate parties.

If your friend hasn’t done so yet, I recommend they keep an eye on their credit card and bank accounts, and follow up with their financial institutions to dispute any suspicious charges they might find.

Thank you,

SeanM|Social Media Specialist | Best Buy® Corporate

Re: Geek Squad Support - Scam Alert

I received a similar call today - they wanted me to sign on to my computer to provide a refund.  When I insisted that they could provide the refund the same way they took it, without using my computer, they hung up.  I have not had geek squad support except on a one-off basis - so fairly certain it was a scam to get into my computer. Beware!
