I'm not sure where to post this, but just wanted to bring an issue to the attention of forum admins: outgoing emails from the board, at least the confirm-your-registration messages, are being sent from noreply@socialmedia.bestbuy.com; however, the hostname "socialmedia.bestbuy.com" does not exist in DNS - no A, MX or other records are returned for it from any name server.

This will cause many mail systems to reject the messages, due to the apparently bogus address. I had to specificlaly whilelist this sender domain in order to receive my registration message, but some members will be unable to do that, or not think to try.

A quick example from server logs of this sender domain tripping Postfix's commonly-enabled reject_unknown_address policy

Yeah, that's well beyond the average Best Buy customer to comprehend and resolve themselves.  Most likely just give up if they can't register and call the 1-888 number or pop into a store.  I think this is probably as good a place as any to post it, they will have to surface it up to the right team internally anyway.

Thank you for reaching out to us here on our Forums although I wish it was under better circumstances. Receiving a email is usually a simple process but sometime spam blockers and filters prevent that from happening its happened to me multiple times so I know how if feels. Best Buy is aware of this issue and this is typically seen with people that have Hotmail emails. If a customer is reaching out and having issues we often let them know they need to add us to there safe senders or white list.  If you have any additional question just send me a private message with your full name, phone number, and email to get started.

That will not solve the issue, rules created within a user’s inbox have zero affect on server side policy application. These won’t even touch the hotmail or iCloud user’s inbox due to the above-mentioned policies in effect on those services. Best Buy has tons of subdomains and a few mail exchange addresses within the DNS system, it would be relatively easy to add this one as well….especially since we’re using it to send out mail pretending it’s already valid.

I’d hate to think customers cannot sign up and/or get assistance because they’re boxed out of using these forums due to a misconfiguration on Best Buy’s end.
