Does Best Buy Record Serial Numbers on Motherboard purchases?

I have about $100 in MyBestBuy rewards that should be coming in about 2 weeks time. However, I am currently building a PC and want to use those rewards to buy a motherboard. This is the last component for my PC build so I want to buy it ASAP.

Does Best Buy record serial numbers for motherboard purchases? I would like to purchase a motherboard now in cash and then purchase it again with points once the points arrive. Can I return the second one I purchase with the receipt of the first one?

I have MyBestBuy Elite status so I have 30 days to return, I am not concerned about that part.

Let's say yes, just because it bothers me when people do this and then Best Buy has to take a loss in the returned one even thou it worked fine.

If it is still in a completely sealed box, would it still be a loss? They could still sell it. I'm not talking about returning something opened. And the product is in stock at local stores, so I'm not special ordering something which will cause them issues because they suddenly have to find somebody to take it.

@nckhammond

I am a CAR Geek Squad Autotech, but the views that I post are my own and not that of Best Buy.

It’s very dishonest if nothing else. You’re expecting someone to actually say this is an okay practice?
