Denied Financing

2021 Labor Day Sale! I am remodeling my entire house, and my husband and I went this past Sunday to purchase all new mayor appliances. So, we both have perfect credit scores and no debts aside from mortgage and car lease. Our income is above the median. My husband's credit score is 8 and mine is 7.7. The total purchase amount was $7600, and we both were dennied the credit card. We never expected to be approved for the whole amount, but we thought that maybe $3000 to $4000 and to pay the other portion out of pocket. I see this problem is recurrent among some of the Best Buy customers. I wonder why the company doesn't look into this issue with CitiBank. This financial institution seems horrible for financing, and making Best Buy lose customers to its competitors. Later that day, we went to Brandsmart USA and purchased all of our appliances there for more or less the same price, and they financed $4500, 36 month-interest free. I couldn't be happier. They say that Best Buy is the best place to buy mayor appliances, however, if they keep working with CitiBank, and not providing payment flexibility to its customers, they will soon start sinking.

Welcome to our Best Buy Support forums. Thank you for reaching out about your recent attempt at purchasing appliances with us. Taking advantage of an interest-free financing promotion is a great way to make larger purchases like this manageable. I can understand though, not being able to qualify for this is not a welcome scenario. 


As you're aware, our My Best Buy Credit Cards are issued through Citibank, N.A, so they are in full determination of the approval process. It is my understanding that you should be sent information regarding the reason for denial via U.S. mail, but you may contact them at (888) 574-1301, as well, to see if they can share any information. 


I do appreciate you sharing your feedback regarding this experience with us. Our cards have changed banks a few times over the years, so I do know that this is reviewed at times by our financial teams. I am glad to hear that you were able to get your appliances purchased, though I'm sorry to hear that wasn't able to be through us.
