Claimed lost gift card, but was rejected to reissue replacement

Hi, 

 

I have a $500 gift card given by a friend. I used it in one order. The current remaining balance is $144.01.

 

On 5/27/2019, I called the customer service line, and claimed lost. I was told the replacement should be received in 15 business days. The case number is {removed per forum guidelines}.

 

On 8/21/2019, I called again as no replacement was received. I was told the original request was rejected. In order to get the replacement, I have to provide the original buyer's name. This sounds rediculous. Gift card is meant for "GIFT". It may go though several persons. Really hard to trace back to the original buyer. Finally this agent agreed with me, and promised to issue a replacement. The case number is {removed per forum guidelines}.

 

On 9/9/2019, once again I called the customer service. The agent on the phone said she would escalate the case and gave me the case number {removed per forum guidelines}.

 

So far, I still have not received the replacement.

 

A few days ago, I found the lost card. With the card number and pin, I called again, and asked if they can restore the original card. I was still rejected. 

 

This sounds totally absurd now. I can provided so many ways to prove I am the current owner, but Best Buy still rejects replacement or restoration.

 

So here I am to seek a solution.
