Hello,. I am writing because of a problem I am having with best buy. I bought a phone 2 years ago. I activated it and everything was fine. On 9/25/19 I went to trade the phone in. I found out that it had been black listed as lost or stolen. I cannot trade it in. I am currently out the $300 trade in value. I checked with my carrier. AT&T. They show that AT&T did not report it stolen. I realize now that when I received the phone from Best Buy. I bought it at bestbuy.com. There was no seal and there was a yellow sticker on the box. Like it had been returned. I believe It was returned to best buy, probably stolen, then sold to me. I have been to the store and they won’t do anything.
There is an organization that controls all mobile devices. GSMA.com. They would have the information as to when it was locked and by whom. I don’t have access to that. Best buy could query them but they either won’t or can’t, I don’t know. Either way, I am out the money. If we could know when the phone was blacklisted, I could show that Best Buy sold me a stolen phone. I sent a private message 2 days ago. Please PM me and I can give you the imei number and I can send the a copy of the original receipt.

Trading in a phone should be an exciting process and we are sad to hear that this has happened. I can most certainly understand wanting to see what options may be available. While I cannot guarantee any particular outcome based on when the phone was purchased, I'd be glad to see if I may be able to assist in any way.
