Best Buy Refusing Card Payments?

I'm kind of disappointed. I was recently approved for a Best Buy credit card. I had purchased a 4K Blu-ray player as well as a Samsung A7 Tablet (2020). I wanted to get ahead of paying off my balance on the card, so about a week ago, I was able to make a $50 payment on my balance, even though my card information hadn't been updated in Best Buy's system yet. I still have the text message of that payment I made. However, when I stepped into Best Buy today and tried to make a $200-$250 payment, I was told by a different employee that Best Buy's system wasn't updated, in regards to my credit account and that I wouldn;t be able to make a payment (except for the $18 minimum due that was listed).

 

Why can't card holders make payments on their card, even before their statements are available? Seems to me that if we pay too much, that it would show up as a credit. I got into trouble with my credit when I was younger and I'm trying to build my credit back up. I just left Best Buy feeling frustrated that I couldn't make a larger payment on my card balance.

 

I should note that I'm aware that I had a $500 card balance to pay off and I wanted to pay it down but I ended up leaving the store without being able to make a bigger payment on my card.

I know how good it can feel to make a bigger payment and watch the balance go down, so I can certainly understand why you'd be frustrated that you weren't able to make the payment that you had planned. We want your My Best Buy Credit Card to be a source of excitement, so we appreciate you letting us know when that wasn't the case.
