Can I purchase a Standard Geek Squad Protection Plan for an ice maker I purchased from Best Buy less than 60 days ago? This ice maker (GE Profile - Opal 2.0, SKU 6408648) has a 4-year standard Geek Squad Protection Plan option for $89.99. According to Geek Squad Protection FAQs, “... you have 60 days after your purchase to add Geek Squad Protection, including standard Geek Squad Protection Plans...” However, when I enquired yesterday (2/23/21) through a Best Buy Chat about the process for adding a 4-year standard Geek Squad Protection Plan, I was advised that “Since the return time frame is over we don’t have the options to add the plan , I would have definitely helped you if I had the option to add the plan.” (quotation from the Best Buy Chat Transcript), and upon my reference to the 60-day policy stated in the Geek Squad Protection FAQs, I was informed “You can add the protection plan , within return time frame which is 15 days , I would been more then happy to help you if it was within return and exchange time frame .” (quotation from the Best Buy Chat Transcript). Did the chat operator misinterpret the 60-day policy for adding a protection plan, as such policy is stipulated in the Geek Squad Protection FAQs?

A Geek Squad Protection Plan is an awesome way to protect your new products, and it's great to be able to purchase the plan later than at the exact time of purchase for a variety of reasons. It does sound like the chat agent that you spoke with was mistaken and misinterpreted this situation.
Our Geek Squad Protection FAQ states the following:
Can I still buy Geek Squad Protection after I've purchased my product?
Yes, you have 60 days after your purchase to add Geek Squad Protection, including standard Geek Squad Protection Plans, Plans with Accidental Damage from Handling, and Product Replacement Plans. You may add the applicable Plan on your Purchase History page. To add a Plan with Accidental Damage from Handling or a Product Replacement Plan, you'll need to bring your item into a Best Buy store.

Thanks to the assistance from Meg-BBY, I was able to add standard Geek Squad Protection Plan within 60 days from purchase through my local Best Buy store. However, I was surprised by the erroneous information I received initially from Best Buy Chat, and later from Geek Squad Customer Service, that a standard Geek Squad Protection Plan can only be added within 15 days from purchase. Kudos to Meg-BBY!
