3 Months Free Apple Music? How?!

I picked up a 12W Apple - Power Adapter a few days ago which has an ongoing promotion "Free Apple Music For 3 Months - New Subscribers." Ok, sounds good, I am not an Apple Music subscriber. The only thing that my email states is:

"Thank you for your Best Buy purchase. Now get 50 million songs FREE for 3 months with Apple Music Listen to over 50 million songs, all ad-free. Download anything then listen anywhere, data-free. And there’s no commitment, so you can cancel anytime. This offer is for new Apple Music subscribers only. Go to www.apple.co/receiptbb"

When I click on the link in this email, it will open iTunes/Music but it tells me to "Choose a plan"  - These are all paid options $9.99 a month, $14.99 Family plan, etc.

So how do I get the "Free 3 months?" Again, I am not a current subscriber so this offer should apply to me.

I already called the number 888-BEST BUY, spoke to one rep that said he would "email me a code, please hold." I did. I was then somehow connected to another rep that explained to me how to do this..which simply led me to these paid plans again. She then stated I need to call Apple Music to clear up the problem.  So...pass the buck.

Now I COULD easily create a new Apple ID, open iTunes and that "Free 3 Month Apple Music" offer is there..and I didn't have to purchase anything at Best Buy, why should I?

There is nothing that states I need to create a new Apple ID - my current ID is connected to all my Apple devices.

A special Redeem code should have been provided by Best Buy and I should not have to call Apple. You guys obviously have an agreement / promotion with them and you making people jump through fiery hoops to claim this Music offer.

To me, this is simply false advertising.

Re: 3 Months Free Apple Music? How?!

As stated in your quoted text above, the offer is available to “new Apple Music subscribers only”. If you have ever had Apple Music activated under your Apple ID in the past, Apple would not consider you “new” no matter the length of time has passed since you had a Music account. That seems right in line with the offer I received as well. I gave it to my mom because I already had a free trial a few months prior and I knew I was no longer a new subscriber.

I am a Best Buy Employee, but the views that I post are my own and not that of Best Buy.

Re: 3 Months Free Apple Music? How?!

Hello Junior1972,

Welcome to our community.  I love a good freebie, and I'm sure you were excited to receive a free trial of Apple Music with the purchase of your new laptop charger.  I’m sorry to hear that you've experienced some difficulties beginning your three-month trial, but I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.

You should be able to begin your free trial by visiting Apple’s website here.  Please note, as @jdogg836 has mentioned, this offer is only for first-time subscribers of the service.

I hope this helps.  Thank you for writing to us.

Re: 3 Months Free Apple Music? How?!

The link to Apple's site does the same - brings up iTunes and again asks me to "Choose a plan"
I am not a current Apple Music subscriber, I never had a subscription to Apple Music, I never did a free trial before on my current and only Apple ID. So I'm not sure what the problem is.

The image below is the ONLY option I have.

Re: 3 Months Free Apple Music? How?!

No, I have never tried a free trial on my current and only Apple ID.

YES I do have my ID connected to iTunes (which has Apple Music on it). I has this connected to sync up my phone, iPad. with MP3s I had stored. Backup my devices. That's it. So if this is messing things up with my "free Music Trial" - again, I think it's nonsense!

Personally, I always disliked iTunes, the whole setup..it's not my default music player choice. I like VLC player.

Re: 3 Months Free Apple Music? How?!

Junior1972,

Thanks for sharing that screenshot with me.  If you have ever access Apple Music before, that could explain why you aren't seeing an option for a free trial.  Because this offer is redeemed exclusively through Apple, I would recommend first trying to create a new Apple ID to see if that rectifies the issue.  If you continue to experience any difficulties, contacting Apple Support would be the best next step.

Let me know if you have any other questions, anytime.
