I was wondering what happens to the DVDs that I trade in for the Trade/Save program? Are they sold to another company? Are they recycled? Are they resold on their site?
I am also curious how Best Buy benefits from giving customers a $5 coupon for a used DVD that most likely has a lower resale value?

Hello livng2tell and welcome to forum!
Thank you for your great question! During our Upgrade & Save promotions, all DVDs that are collected are recycled along with the other electronics that we accept as part of our recycling program.
We offer this program to help our customers purchase high definition content as high definition TVs and Blu-ray players become more and more common in people’s homes. By the time many people upgrade their home theater system, they already have a whole collection of standard DVDs. Through the Upgrade & Save promotion, customers are given the opportunity to experience the difference that Blu-ray makes at a lower price.
Thanks for the post, and let us know if you have any more questions!

OK, now explain what happens to the discs cases -- recycling has too many made up definitions?
Are they tossed in a landfill
Are they given/sold to a 3rd party to sell
Are they given away to charitable organiations --childrens homes/hospitals, senior center, homeless shelter.
Are they run through a shredder and separated to make new stuff -- carpet, roadway, insulation??

Hello prospect60,
The specifics of what happens to the products really depends on the recycling partner that is being used in that particular location, all of which adhere to the highest guidelines and standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). More information on our recycling standards can be found here, as well as a brief video that shows the process in more detail here.
Thanks for the great questions!
