There are two Planet Earth 2 4k disc sets found on Best Buy with different SKUs.  What are the differences?

From what research I have done, there apparently is no difference between the two versions. I believe the Best Buy website for the second release (SKU 6132390) is a misprint as it states it will be 2 discs, while the original first release back in March of this year was 3 discs (two of the discs being 4K Ultra HD and the third disc being a standard Blu-ray disc containing the bonus content).

However, based on images I have seen of BOTH of the releases, they appear to be identical and this new release appears to also be three discs. On a forum I belong to others were inquiring about the differences as well and a BB employee posted that stores got them in on the 9th to hit shelves on the 12th and the employee posted an image of both SKU numbers and both appear identical. Both also come with the cardboard slipcover sleeve as well.

As you can see the first release is currently $34.99, while the new second release is listed at $44.99. I believe when you posted it was before prices reset as every Sunday a new ad is generated. I do know that this title is featured in the Black Friday ad for Best Buy, there is no price listed. Generally when a retailer has a disclaimer on their releae as Best Buy does for this second release where it states "Only at Best Buy" that generally means there is something unique to it that isn't available elsewhere. What that is remains to be seen, but based on the images I saw of both SKU numbers, looking at the front and back of the cases there doesn't appear to be anything different so I believe that is a misprint by Best Buy too.

What I would do is wait until Black Friday and then check both SKU numbers on the Best Buy website. More than likely one of these will be on sale during that time, and if both releases are the same, obviously go with the one priced the lowest since both appear to be the same content-wise.

Hi Sloopen,

The content is the same between these two titles. The lower priced option began on Black Friday. At this time it seems this is the only one currently available in most places. I'd encourage you to submit an order while they are still available for shipping.

Content-wise there is no difference. Best Buy did have an exclusive meaning they were the first retailer to offer it back in March 2017. They then re-released it again to coincide with Black Friday as Mike mentioned and at a lower price point. I believe it was $29.99 during BF, but currently it is listed at $34.99 on Best Buy.com (link below).

If you are a fan of the "Blue Planet" series, Best Buy will have an exclusive steelbook packaging for the upcoming 4K release of Blue Planet 2 on March 6, 2018. It is currently listed at $54.99 but it could come down in price when it is released. This special tin packaging can only be found at Best Buy, "steelbook" collecting is a huge market, and generally they are limited in production so these may sell out quick when they are released.
