Twilight!

I don't know about any of you, but when I read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer a few months ago, I was blown away.  I understand they are young adult material, but I just could not get enough of Bella, Edward, Jacob and all of the Cullens!  Imagine my delight when I found out there would be a big screen adaptation of my favorite book!  I was a bit hesitant about wheter or not the actors and actresses would do my beloved characters justice.  I figured when it came out I would just have to go see it at the theater and decide for myself!

Last Friday, I did just that!  My friend and I took my three daughters and a family friend to see the movie.  It was quite the experience.  To begin with, we waited in the hold out line in front of the theater for almost 2 hours with hundreds of eager young ladies.  Luckily we had pre-ordered the actual tickets so we were good in that aspect.   The hold out line is inside, so we were out of the cold!  You cannot imagine how excited these girls were.  Some of the more hard core fans even had their books with them.  It really tickled me!  When we got into the theater, we quickly found our seats and watched the room fill up.  The showing was sold out!  Luckily, we got nice seats and settled in with our snacks - waiting to be wowed!

When the previews started, the hundreds of girls started screaming...and it was nothing short of "Beatles" type screaming, where the girls were just rabid in anticipation.  The theater manager came in and told the crowd that screaming was not permitted, however this did not deter them.  When the movie finally started, I thought the crowd was going to actually explode they were so excited!  My daughters did not know what to think and my friend and I just laughed.

I was really worried if Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson would live up to my expectations of Bella and Edward.  Let me just say that I put my concerns to rest after their first scene together.  I feel that the film makers did an excellent job in their casting of the roles and really stayed true to the book.  I left the theater completely satisfied and wanting a sequel to be out as soon as possible!  I won't say too much about the plot, because I do not want to spoil anything, however I strongly recommend this wonderful flick!

Go see it, you won't be disappointed!

Re: Twilight!

I have to admit that I'm with you as far as the books are concerned. Who is your favorite character? Are you on Team Edward, or Team Jacob?

Personally, for me, the movie wasn't nearly as good or as intense as the book was for me. When I first picked up the book, no one could get me to move for nearly the whole day, I was that absorbed into the book!!

I've seen the movie twice. For me, I was thrilled with most of the casting choices for the roles. Robert Pattinson (swoon) makes a great Edward, Kristen Stewart does great as Bella, but I think the one that really surprised me the most was Billy Burke as Charlie. I was really surprised to see him, and he did a great job with the role!

Over all, I'm really looking forward for Twilight to come to DVD because I can't wait for the extras.

P.S. Did you see Stephenie Meyer in her cameo in the movie?

Re: Twilight!

Hey Miranda -

I have to say that I am most definitely a "Team Edward" type of gal.  I look forward to seeing Jacob in further movies though, I think his character lacked development in this installment.

I also agree that Billy Burke did well, although he was not the "Charlie" I had envisioned in my head.

The funny thing is that I originally bought the book(s) for my 15 year old daughter, who did NOT read them.  Then I took her to the movie and she gobbled the books up!

Honestly, one of my most loved characters is Alice.  I cannot wait to see her role fleshed out in more movies.  Also, Bella and Edward are my overall favorites.  The love story is so refreshing and unique.

Thanks for posting!

Oh, Dorothy....I feel compelled to respond.  I went to see the movie with my fiance.  Let me start by saying that I did not read the book, but my fiance did (the whole reason I was there to begin with). She, like you, loved the whole series and could NOT wait for the movie.  We had a similar experience to you as we went on opening night.  An absolute mad house!

Now, generally I'm not much of a movie critic, but I will never sit through another minute of this movie.  Even my fiance was criticizing the way the movie was done.  She was very disappointed.  The actor who player Edward was strange (though I hear his character is strange in the book), the special effects were cheap and the story was very rushed.  The relationship between Edward and Bella was rushed and awkward.  It made the movie feel uncomfortable.

I've seen movies that followed books before when I hadn't read the book and this one was at the bottom of the list.  Maybe it's "amazing" to those that are clouded and infatuated with Edward's character.  However, as a movie, it was not well done and I will not go see the remaining movies.

Re: Twilight!

I didn't read the books, but from what I've been lead to understand they are 200x better.

I felt the movie was entirely on dimensional and lacked any real depth. Aside from it feeling like Vampires 90210...

I just felt as if they really needed a LOT more character development especially with Bella and her father, along with all the other vampires that just seem to appear without a lot of explanation.

Bad movie? Nah, but I won't be buying it.

Re: Twilight!

Dorothy,

Thank you for letting me borrow the Twilight book series. I am fascinated with the books, but I am even more excited for the release of the movie on DVD on 3/31/09!

Now if only I can remember what I did with my spare time before I had the books?
