If you ask anyone what their favorite day of the week is, they’re probably going to say Friday or Saturday. Of course, I love the weekend just like everyone else, but my favorite day of the week is Tuesday. Why, you may ask? Because it’s NEW RELEASE TUESDAY!

Every week, we advertise some of the top new releases that are scheduled to be released that Tuesday. These are typically the titles that are expected to be the most “popular,” but aren’t always the releases that I’m most excited about. That is why I am going to start posting some of my most anticipated music and movie releases on a regular basis to try and highlight some of the lesser known titles that not everyone may be aware of. To start, let’s take a look at some releases for January 22.

Music

The Joy Formidable are set to release their sophomore album, Wolf’s Law. I first got into this band after hearing the song “Whirring” on their debut release, The Big Roar, and I’m really exicted to hear what this new release has to offer.

Ra Ra Riot will be releasing their third album, Beta Love. When I first got their debut album, The Rhumb Line, it got a lot of plays in my library. Their second album, The Orchard, kind of got lost in a sea of other releases for me, but I think it’s time to dust if off and give it another listen before I get too lost in this new release.

Toro Y Moi will also be releasing his third album, Anything In Return. His debut album, Causers of This, kind of flew under the radar for me, and I didn’t find out about his music until hearing “New Beat” from his second album, Underneath the Pine.

 Movies

Searching For Sugar Man is a documentary that chronicles the story of two fans on a search to find out what really happened to Rodriguez, a musician that began his career in the 70s and had been rumored to be dead for many years. He didn’t see much success in the United States, but unbeknownst to him, his music had become incredibly popular in South Africa. You can view the trailer here.

The Paperboy stars Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, and John Cusack. It is a story about a reporter and his brother investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a local sheriff in an effort to exonerate the man who was convicted and sitting on death row for the crime.
