This week’s title is actually a movie series that has spanned over four movies, and even inspired a TV series reboot: Scream. This is possibly one of the first horror movies I remember seeing, despite my young age at the time of its release (thanks, older siblings).
The first installment follows high schooler Sydney Prescott and her friends as they attempt to survive a killer in a Ghost Face costume terrorizing their hometown of Woodsboro, California, using all of the typical horror movie tropes to navigate the "dos and don'ts" of the horror movie they've found themselves living. This movie not only makes jokes about but pays tribute to horror movies that came before it, making it one of my favorites in its meta ways. This isn't where the series ended though, as it continues to follow Sydney as she re-encounters Ghost Face throughout three more movies, ending in Scream 4 in 2011.
MTV picked up on the love for this show, and brought us Scream: The TVSeries. While I'll say this didn't hold a candle to the movies, I must also admit to shamelessly binging the entire series.
With Halloween just around the corner, I would encourage you to check them out if you haven't seen them. You might just be inspired for your next Halloween costume.
