Horror Movie of the Week: Week 1

[ Edited ]

Ah, spooky season, or as I prefer to call it, “spoopy” season! In honor of this – the best – season, I am going to recommend a horror movie (or collection) each week, or more, leading up to Halloween. As a horror movie buff, this is when all the horror movies become available on the streaming services and TV, so I definitely take advantage and pretty much spend a whole month (okay, maybe two months, starting in September) binging all of my favorites.

Week 1

To start, and in honor of the most recent theatrical release, is It. From the genius mind of Stephen King, comes the Losers Club of Derry, Maine. A group of misfits come together in the small town of Derry to fight against a formidable force, Pennywise the Dancing Clown, that appears as each of the Loser’s worst fears (Sounds like this might have inspired JK Rowling’s boggart, no?) while the adults turn a blind eye to the town’s history of children’s untimely deaths and disappearances.

This story began as a book, transitioned to a TV mini-series that’s now been combined into a full 3-hour length film, and ultimately, the most recent remakes. Recently, I picked up Stephen King’s It SteelBook, and you can bet that if they release a combo SteelBook for the remakes, It Chapter One and Two, I will be snagging it as well!

If you have somehow been living under a rock, or perhaps spending too much time in gray water, I would highly recommend you check it out, and pre-order your copy of It Chapter Two.

Welcome to the Losers Club!

Re: Horror Movie of the Week

I started reading Steven King in my early teens, and when It came out, I got it from my local library.  Being about the same age as the Losers Club kids were, the book really impacted me in a way not many books have.

While the mini-series wasn't the best, Tim Curry really rescued the production, and made it memorable for many of us who had been hoping for years to see It translated into something live action.

When the theatrical release came out, I wondered at first how good it might be able to be, since I had heard they were taking some liberties with the book, but I couldn't have been happier with how the movie came out.

While I haven't seen the sequel yet, I'm hoping to still get a chance to here before it leaves the theaters.
