Is anyone else upset that the industry killed 3D in the US, in favor of pushing 4K?  3D is still alive and well in EU, and I have been able to purchase quite a few 3D region free films from the UK.  It makes NO SENCE to kill 3D to push 4K, thinking that by giving consumers too many choices, 4K may not do well. 3D is in a category of its own and doesn't compete with any other media format.  Why the hell are they still supporting DVD, if they want to push Bluray, 4K and for a time, 3D?  Kill DVD supprot! Who's still watching them? Mema Moses and the Mosettes?  

I understand sales of 3D TV's / films were not as high as they expected; however, the common Walmart Joe looking to buy a budget TV wasn't their target in the first place. High-end products, like Samsungs 8000 series TV's and 4K bluray players, should have ALL the features--4K HDR, 3D, etc.  Why are we limited and other countries are not??  If consumers are willing to spend the money for a flagship model product, then by God, give us all the current technologies. 

Why can't we have more 3D, 4K and Bluray combo sets?  I haven't bought any movies unless I find a complete set, because I would like the option of enjoying the film as it was presented in the theater.  *(And I will not a 4K set, then another 3D set individually--that's superflous!)
Star Wars, the Avengers, Wonder Woman, and many others, were all made for 3D.  But with Samsung pulling the plug on it, most people will never again be able to have that viewing experience.

Give us options and stop making the choices for us!  For crying out loud.

It is frustrating.  I never bought into 3D for simply this same reason.  Personally I was far from impressed with at home 3D TV options. I enjoy them immensely and it is a shame. 

Best Buy made a pretty sizable commitment to 3D.

i didn't realize they had killed it at all. i don' t have a 3D tv or player anyways. everything it seems is almost 4K anymore. perhaps it is their way of keeping physical copies alive? 1st there was Beta that was somewhat of a hit that's true but VHS was a far bigger sell and won. than you had i forger what that thing that was called that was before Laserdisc. and Laserdisc was around for years but i only knew one person who owned one and that was my brother.

dvd was their way of keeping Laserdisc alive because while it's a smaller medium that's true it had the audio commentary's and extra's while VHS or Beta didn't. the same thing for blu-ray it was a step up from dvd with the better picture quality and sound.  maybe 3D never really caught on the way they thought it would?

but 4K i guess is the next hot thing and you know what? i'm okay with that as long as we still can buy the phyiscal release of what tv show we want that is on those or dvd format. to hazard another guess on why people love 4K over 3D.

there are of course people who love it like you for example than there are people who hate and than there are people who just can't watch it cause it bothers them i know many people like that. they don't hate it but they have trouble watfching it. and 4K is the step up from Blu-ray with better picture, sound among other things that blu-ray and dvd can't do.

sorry for the long post and the history lesson my point in saying was that 4K is the latest thing and in 10 years if physical releases are still here and i do hope they are. than  we will see something else on the market.

Hello and Happy 4th of July!

As a brand new member, I am glad to be part of this support forum. I have been a Best Buy customer for quite a long time (30 years?+) and I, personally love them. All my electronics and "boy toys" have been through BB....and installed by BB. I am a little disappointed in the Magnolia department, which I have bought most of my latest products through. Back on topic...sorry...

I just recently purchased a 75" Sony Z9 with the OPPO 203 DVD player, a mid-range Marantz receiver and a higher-end Martin-Logan speaker system. All this because I totally love my 4K DVDs and 3D movies. I have DVD, blu-ray, 3D and 4K movies. I love them and I get almost all through BB. Because of my movies, I got the TV and OPPO. 

It is sad that the 3D movies are not as plentiful as they used to be. I really loved that one of the movies that I bought through BB had the 3D AND the 4K in one steelbook set. I am hoping they do more of that. 

Is BB going to do more of the combined formats? I would love to see that happen with Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. Any change of that happening???

Thanks for joining the forum, and thank you too for making Best Buy your source for your home theater equipment and media. It sounds like you've got an excellent set-up that would make any cinephile proud.

It seems like only a few short years ago that we were wondering whether HD DVD or Blu-Ray would win the format battle, and it's hard to believe how far audio and picture quality has come in the relatively short time. It does seem that 3D did not get off the ground quite like studios had hoped, but there is definitely still interest there and like you I too would love to see more combo packs available that include both 4K and Blu-Ray 3D. I appreciate the feedback with your thoughts.

At this time there is not a combo pack that includes both for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but I would encourage you to watch BestBuy.com for any updates. There's a lot of time between now and then and anything could happen.

The reality is guys, 3D outside of the cinema was just not pushing 3D disc sales in the North Amerrican market. Various implementations including passive and active, lack of universal glasses, pricing of glasses when buying manufacturer branded, premium pricing of discs, it's no wonder the CE manufacturer's stopped adding the features to their panels wheen they were so low on the list of consumer interests.

3D in the home turned out to be a niche not worth supporting. I sympathize, but the reality is of all the people I know with televisions whose homes I've been in, I was the only one that ever actually used 3D. I had a 60" Panasonic VT60 plasma, the #1 3D material on my TV? WipEoutHD on the PlayStation 3, it was great in 3D but all the 3D discs I have including much of the Pixar stuff, several action flicks including Man of Steel, Edge of Tomorrow and the Hobbit movies, some conversions like Top Gun, Jurassic Park and Titanic, I never watched a single one straight through and never had anyone else visiting to watch a movie that was interested in the 3D version.

4K brings with is massive changes, the first change to the colour space in decades, 4x the resolution, the new and more efficient HVC codec and the biggest change you'll notice when implemented well...High Dynamic Range.

We don't have any hard figures on what it would cost to have one line include 3D, so it's hard to say what the margins are. Clearly though, they have the numbers and it's clear to them that 3D wasn't working. As a CEO your main job is to make money, so if 3D was causing even a couple points loss, you 86 it. Now I'm not saying CEs understand the market perfectly, after all some of the top line of sets focus on things like Smart features, web cams and fancy pants speakers. Probably 0.01% of videophiles/cinephiles care about TV speakers, their TVs are being installed in home theaters with light-controlled environments and kick-butt audio systems including now full array 7.x.4 Dolby Atmos installations (where your subs noted as the "x" may vary from 1-4). Pioneer really understood this in 2008 with their reference line of Kuro plasma sets being called "monitors", no speakers at all! I wish Panasonic would figure this out with their OLED line.

DVD costs pennies, and it's still the #1 physical video format in terms of units moved.

I don't want to see more combo sets myself, as my new Panasonic 65" 4K OLED doesn't support 3D. I have some 3D discs that will look better in 2D than their 2D counterparts like Top Gun as the new scan was only used on the 3D disc, but otherwise I want to buy as little as possible. I'm happy with 4D/BD combos for now but heck just gimme 4K with a 1080p digital download code and keep my pricing down.

The fact of the matter is, they gave us options and one of them didn't do much so they removed it. It's just business. It's why Crystal Pepsi didn't stick around, or the Arch Deluxe. Just business.
