If there’s anyone who likes to kick back and relax after a long day of doing nothing, it would be yours truly.  Being a student has taught me some pretty important life lessons, but perhaps one of the most important is to take advantage of every free minute that comes your way.  I’m a huge believer in taking time for yourself, regardless of how many boxes you’ve checked off on your to-do list for the day.  Everyone is different, but I am happiest when I’m “fully charged”; that is, I’ve found my limits for how long I can go without taking a mental health break.

As is with most other areas of my life, I tend to integrate technology into nearly everything I do.  Why should relaxation be any different?  As we celebrate National Relaxation Day today, follow me down the virtual rabbit hole as I share some of my favorite pieces of tech that help me (and can help you) find your Zen.

reclinerTake a seat, or take a nap.

No living or family room would be complete without a trusty recliner chair.  You know, the one that everyone in the household takes turns sleeping on at one point or another?  Thanks to Best Buy’s Furniture & Décor selection, you can find the perfect chair for taking an afternoon snooze.  And, as an added bonus, some of our recliners like this one from Relaxzen come with built-in massagers, heaters, and USB chargers to kick-start your relaxation session.

What can beat getting a free heated massage while charging your phone?  Answer: not much.

If you’re anything like me, falling asleep can sometimes feel like a battle in and of itself.  A select group of my friends possess this uncanny ability to fall asleep within seconds, even in the most uncomfortable positions and environments.  One thing that has helped me get many good nights’ rest is white noise.

Simply put, white noise is a certain combination of frequencies that are used to mask sounds in the background. There are dozens of types of white noise sounds that you can manufacture, and the National Sleep Foundation states that white noise can even promote healthy sleep depending on the volume and type of frequencies used.  Explore the world of white noise with this sound machine from LectroFan that comes loaded with 20 various compositions of noise.

bose-qc35iiJam out in peace.

Whether you’re on a long plane ride or sitting in a quiet office, listening to your favorite tunes on the right set of headphones can turn a typical outing into a personal concert.  For over half a century, Bose® has been among the forerunners in personal audio technology.  Their new second-edition QuietComfort® 35 headphones use Acoustic Noise Cancelling technology, which continuously measures, compares and reacts to outside noise, and then cancels it with the opposite signal.

With Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built-in, you can control music, send and receive texts, and get answers using just your voice.  No more crying babies or fax machines interrupting your solo jam sesh.

Tips and tricks.

I can think of fewer things more frustrating than waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to fall back asleep.  The National Sleep Foundation recommends turning your phone off at least 30 minutes before bedtime so as to avoid delaying your body’s circadian rhythm.  If you do have to use your phone in the later hours of the evening, most newer devices have a “night mode” you can enable that will decrease the amount of artificial blue light displayed on the screen, which—in turn—can also reduce eye strain.  You might also have luck using lavender oils or lotions to enter a relaxed state of mind, or you can enjoy a nice cup of Chamomile tea before bed.

What methods or products do you use to relax?  If you don’t have any favorites yet, try one of the options above and let us know how it works for you!

As an owner of the Bose QC 35 II headphones, I can share an insider view to their awesomeness.  They make a huge difference whether one is traveling or in the office.  One will be amazed as how much noise is around us and how much can be filtered out. The action button as makes it easy to change the level of noise cancellation (high, low, or off) on the fly to adjust to according to the environment.  The headphones have a great battery life and have a wired mode if they run out of power.  Definitely needed in the Relaxing Repertoire.
