Just last Christmas, my family sat around chatting about what our first movies we each saw in theaters were. For my husband, it was Titanic. For my sister-in-law, it was The Lion King. While I couldn’t remember exactly what my first movie in theaters was, one of the earliest memories I have in a theater was seeing The Lost World: Jurassic Park when I was just 5 years old (courtesy of my oldest brother).

If I wasn’t already a Jurassic Park fan from watching the original at home on VHS again and again, hearing the Tyrannosaurus Rex roar in theaters solidified it! After seeing the first two movies, I was enthralled with the dinosaurs, especially the Velociraptors. I even recall requesting a dinosaur Lego set the following Christmas! I remember putting it together, and displaying it on a shelf when not playing with it to keep it safe and sound. When I went to the Science Museum of Minnesota (yes, the very same one as the one listed on Dustin’s infamous purple brontosaurus sweater in Stranger Things), I couldn’t get enough of their T. Rex skull! 

Needless to say, when Jurassic World was announced, my inner child went crazy! I was incredibly excited to see where they took the story over two decades after the original, and wasn’t disappointed. Between the advances in technology allowing some pretty stellar effects (though I still think the animatronics from the original are hard to beat), and Chris Pratt adding in some of his own comedy, it was fantastic to be pulled back into such a world! 

While everyone else has been losing their minds over Avengers: Infinity War, I’ve been quietly and enthusiastically awaiting Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom! While I can only predict so much from a trailer, it certainly looks like the Masrani Corporation may not have learned anything from InGen when they had a T. Rex running rampant in San Diego in 1997, or their own Indominus Rex incident of 2016. With returning cast members including Chris Pratt and Jeff Goldblum, I think we’re all in for a treat, and you can bet I’ll have my ticket opening weekend, and be pre-ordering it soon after!
