Exams are finished and excitement is in the air. Friends, family, peers, and teachers all gather together in celebration of this monumental occasion. Students enter the main event with a musical intro from “Pomp and Circumstance Marches.” Diplomas are awarded, tassels are moved, “Congratulations to the class of 2017!” is spoken, and caps rain from the sky in celebration of this long awaited achievement.

Grad Computer.JPGSo what now? For many, preparation begins for another chapter of school. It’s time to batten down the hatches. Living arrangements have to be made, school supplies and books have to be purchased, and students attend orientation to learn about what fun is just around the corner. This is such a huge transition that you truly want this experience to be as smooth as possible for your graduate. If your graduate is planning on the new adventure of dorm or apartment life, there are so many ways to create a home environment that will support a successful college journey. This will be a place that students rely on to learn, study, and prepare for classes daily. You want to be sure that your graduate has whatever they need to create an atmosphere of focus. A computer (be sure you have good anti-virus software and Microsoft Office) and reliable wireless internet are two must-haves. A good set of headphones may be desired considering dorms and even apartments aren’t always the quietest of places. For that “home-like” atmosphere, a nice TV with either a Roku or Apple TV is fabulous for when the studying is complete and your graduate just needs some time to relax. You also cannot forget the COFFEE. A Keurig is such an easy way to get that cup of energy to help get through the day!

Grad Headphones.JPGFor others graduates, it’s straight to preparing for their job/career. Some people already have a job lined up and anxiously await the first day. Others are continuing a prior job and setting new goals for the future with this newfound freedom. Shopping sprees ensue for new outfits that represent the next phase of this journey. Some great ideas to make this transition fluid for your friend or loved one include a Bluetooth headset for safe travels and ease of access to calls and messages, a nice briefcase or backpack if they have a need to carry their computer or tablet with them, a Fitbit to track daily activity (many workplaces encourage healthy habits and even have contests around steps taken!), and even a cute or nerdy lunchbox for those who choose to bring their own yummy bites along.

Grad DSLR.JPGFinally, you have your summer party crew! This graduate wants to enjoy his or her downtime and bask in the glory of finally being free from the responsibility of school. They want to live life freely for a bit with the only cares being what beach to visit or whose pool they should crash all summer. Maybe they will attend drone races and want to participate (yes, these do exist now). A drone would be a blast of a gift but be sure to include a note recommending they avoid the trees! Maybe they will take the summer to travel and take advantage of being young and free. A DSLR camera would be the perfect way to document these beautiful memories. Perhaps after lounging all day by the pool, they will want nothing more than to park in front of their favorite gaming system and get lost in the moment. Regardless of their dreams of the best summer of their life, there are so many ways to help make this a reality.

Grad Drone.JPGAlways remember the best gift you can give the graduate in your world is your support, love, and well wishes for the future ahead. This is a colossal moment in their life that is full of excitement, nervousness, and maybe a bit of fear of the big steps to come. Having family and friends like you will help make this milestone something that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

To the graduating class of 2017, go forth and conquer! The world is your oyster so dig in and enjoy!
