Symptoms
During the device setup of some Insignia devices such as the Wi-Fi Smart Plug (NS-SP1X7) and Fridge/Freezer, when the user enters the Wi-Fi network's password and taps Continue, the app does not move to the next screen.
Diagnosis
The phone's setting for the selected Wi-Fi network needs to be refreshed so that the app can recognize it and proceed. This may also be an issue faced by users who own mesh network Wi-Fi Routers which broadcast both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands.
Primary Solution
- Go to the phone’s Wi-Fi network settings. Select the desired 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network and in its settings, select “Forget This Network”. This will remove any corrupt information about your network.
- Re-join the phone to the same 2.4Ghz network but this time, make sure "Auto-Join" is set for that network
- Factory-reset the NS-SP1X7 plug or fridge/freezer and follow the normal setup process selecting the same Wi-Fi network your phone was connected to.
Alternative Solution
- Place your phone on airplane mode.
- Enable Wi-Fi only.
- Have your phone re-join the home wi-fi network where you plan to connect the Insignia device to (make sure this network is broadcasting on the 2.4Ghz frequency)
- Perform a factory reset on your Insignia device.
- Restart the setup process and when prompted, make sure to select the same wi-fi network your phone was connected to.
- Upon successful setup, you can disable airplane mode on your phone.
