Insignia Voice Portable Voice-Activated Speaker NS-CSPGASP2 Stuck in Setup

I got 3 Insignia Voice Portable Voice-Activated Speakers (NS-CSPGASP2) and two of them set up quicly and easily through the Google Home App on my LG V30 android device.

The third one starts up normally just like the other two did, displays "SEt" tells me to set it up using the Google Home App. When I go to set up the device, my phone does find it and tries to connect but eventually fails with the error:

"We couldn't authenticate your Insignia NS-CPSGASP2. Please visit support.google.com/chromecast for help troubleshooting this issue."

I have already tried:

  1. Holding the power button for 12 seconds to reset it and it resets and then proceeds to do the exact same thing.
  2. Pressing the tiny reset button on the bottom next to the power cable, while the speaker is on.
  3. Connect it while on a different WiFi network.
  4. Connect it while my LG V30 is in airplane mode with WiFi on

I thought maybe I would just use it as a Bluetooth speaker, but I'm not even able to get it into Bluetooth mode until the device is initially set up. So I can't use Bluetooth Mode either.

Somebody please help!

Ben

Smart Speaker Setup not working

I have an Insignia Voice Portable Voice-Activated Speakers (NS-CSPGASP2) and I'm having trouble setting it up through the Google Home App on my Samsung Galaxy S7 android device.

I can see the speaker and connect to it, hear the sound, connect it to the wifi and go through all of the google setup.  At the end it says "Configuring your Insignia NS-CSPGASP2  Hang tight, it shouldn't be more than a few moments".

This fails and it then says "There was a problem setting up Insignia NS-CSPGASP2  For help resolving the issue, visit the Help Centre".  The help centre link gives no assistance.

After this the speaker shows up in my assigned room, I can change the settings on it and see the information on it (System firmware:300, Cast firmware version: 1.27.97091) and I can use it as a bluetooth speaker.  It still says SEt on the display, I cannot cast music to it and google assistant does not work, it just says that my device has not been set up yet.

I have already tried:

  1. Holding the power button for 12 seconds to reset it and it resets and then proceeds to do the exact same thing.
  2. Pressing the tiny reset button on the bottom next to the power cable, while the speaker is on.
  3. Connect it while on a different WiFi network.
  4. The phone and speaker are close to the router.
  5. Connect it while my phone is in airplane mode with WiFi on
  6. Reinstalling the Google Home app.
  7. Leaving it overnight to let it upgrade it's firmware

Is there anything I can do to fix it?  Is this just a bad speaker, should I take it back to Best Buy and get a replacement?

Somebody please help!

Philip

Error message: There was a problem setting up Insignia NS-CSPGASP

Whenever t Itry to set up an  Insignia NS CSPGASP that I bought on ebay, I get this message at the last step where it says it's configuring my speaker;

There was a problem setting up Insignia NS-CSPGASP

I have tried resetting the speaker back to the factory setting by holding down the Microphone button for 12 seconds.

I have unplugged the other Insignia NS-CSPGASP in the house.

I have deleted and reinstalled the Google home app on my phone.

I don't know what else to do.

Re: Smart Speaker Setup not working

I'm having the same issues. I've tried both a Pixel XL and and iPhone 7. I bought an open box speaker couldn't get it to work. I chalked it up to it's used status. I then returned it the same day and bought a new one. Still having the exact same problem.

Re: Insignia Voice Portable Voice-Activated Speaker NS-CSPGASP2 Stuck in Setup

Re: Error message: There was a problem setting up Insignia NS-CSPGASP

Whoa!

Best Buy had this speaker on sale today so I went and bought a new one.

I had exactly the same problem as with the one I bought on Ebay.

The setup process went fine until the last step where it says it's configuring the device.

Then I got the exact same error message:

There was a problem setting up Insignia NS-CSPGASP

This tells me it's not a hardware problem.

Is there some limit on the number of Insignia Bluetooth speakers with Google Home you can have?

I already have two in one home and two in another, all on the same Google account. In researching this, I recall other people having problems connecting additonal speakers.

Re: Error message: There was a problem setting up Insignia NS-CSPGASP

Thank you Sam.

However, I am not sure if this can be fixed.

I can't even get to the point where I can upgrade the firmware. So if a new software update is released I still can't install it on my speaker.

Unless the issue is a part of the Google Home App on my device which can be updated.

Do you need a speaker with the issue?
I can send mine if requested.

@benzbraunstein - That likely won't be necessary at this time, but I'll let you know if that changes. Thanks!
