I have 3 questions.

1.  Are there any plans to update the ns-brdvd3 with upnp support?  It seems that the hardware can do this, it would just be an issue of programming in the firmware.

2.  Can I hook up a portable (usb powered) usb hard drive (not a flash drive).

3.  What file formats are supported for usb?  For example, fat16, fat32, fatEx, ext2, ext3, ntfs.

I tried to hook up a portable hard drive (USB powered) to the ns-brdvd3 and it worked for about 2 minutes, then i saw the message "usb out".  A few seconds later I saw "usb in", and then "usb out" a minute later.

I am able to play videos off the portable drive for a few minutes but it always disconnects on it's own.  I'm wondering if the USB port isn't putting enough power out?  The device I'm using is USB 2.0 so it should work with no issues.  My understanding is that USB 2.0 is supposed to detect higher power need devices and up the power to them when it sees them.  It seems this would be a simple firmware update.

The drive works with no issues with my laptop and desktop computers. 

Can you help?

Is the drive bus powered or have a power adapter?  If bus powered you're probably right and the USB port on the BRDVD3 doesn't give enough power consistently to the drive - thus the dropouts.

As stated in my original post, it is USB (bus) powered.

Have you tried using another flash drive?  Occasionally, a USB thumb drive will be incompatible with the player and swapping out the drive may result in resolving the problem.  Please let us know your results!

I have a thumb drive which works fine.  My question is regarding the support of portable USB powered hard drives.  It seems that the power output on the brdvd3's USB port is not sufficient and needs to be raised to make this work.

I am able to use a normal thumb drive and an externally powered USB drive, just not a portable USB powered hard drive.

Hello again zambien,

Since support for a USB hard drive is not specifically called out in the owner's manual, I strongly suspect that the device you're trying to hook up will not work.  I will route your concern to our technical team for additional research, however.  Please check back in the next few business days for additional information.

Unfortunately I don't have that option (no other usb devices nearby).  I could go out and buy a powered USB hub to fix the issue, but at more cost.  Instead I have returned the hard drive for an externally powered mybook.   It's still a valid support question though and one that could probably be fixed with a firmware update.

Are there any updates on the 3 questions from the original post?

1.  Will the player support upnp in the future?

2.  Can the low power in the usb port be fixed for portable (USB powered) hard drives?

3.  Can the player be updated to support exFat or NTFS so we don't have to break our media files down into 4gb chunks?
