NS-CSPGASP cast feature requires restart daily

I have a NS-CSPGASP (https://www.insigniaproducts.com/pdp/NS-CSPGASP-G/5865902) that has constant issue with the cast feature failing, which requires a reboot to get it work again.  Almost on a daily basis to I need to power cycle it.

For a long time I used a "routine" that would start an audio stream in the morning to act as an alarm, but that doesn't work reliably anymore.

Even when the chromecast feature is non-function, the general Google Assistant features work.

Is this a known problem?

The firmware versions on the device:

    System firmware version: 326
    Cast firmware version: 1.40.168834

I have nest mini with cast firmare at 1.46.200660, and two chromecasts audio at 1.46.200660.  I wonder if just a standard cast firmware upgrade would fix this?

I assume there will be no more updates for this discontinued device, but maybe Insignia will surprise me.  Are there any plans for more firmware updates for this device?

Re: NS-CSPGASP cast feature requires restart daily

Hi, anville,

Welcome to our community. Thanks for getting in touch with us about this. Having to power cycle that every day must be frustrating.

One thing that I’ve seen fix situations like this is power cycling your router. Sometimes Wi-Fi can be temperamental. Please give that a try, and let us know if your speaker stays connected more than a day.

[ Edited ]

I'm pretty sure that the problem is not the router.  The other Google cast devices  in my house work fine even when the Insignia device exhibits problems.  And as I mentioned, the Google Assistant functions of the Insginia speaker are still functional even when its Cast functionality fails, so I know that the device has a wifi connection, at least.

After I posted here yesterday I found other people with this problem on thread:

{removed per forum guidelines}

I also use my Insignia as part of a speaker group like the people in that Reddit thread.

KyleR-BBY, are you aware of any continued support for these devices with respect to firmware updates?

Re: NS-CSPGASP cast feature requires restart daily

Hi there, anville,

Thank you for following up. While it may indeed not be the router, it's always best to double check even if just to eliminate a source of an issue with certainty. Have you attempted to power cycle the router as Kyle suggested?

Re: NS-CSPGASP cast feature requires restart daily

Hi Tasha,

I have not yet tried it, because I've not seen the issue since I power-cycled the device earlier today.

However, since everything else on my home network is working fine, and the only device with an issue is the Insignia speaker, even if rebooting my router would help the Insignia device recover, it would be clear that the speaker still has an issue and not the router.

(Since my reddit link in my above post got removed, here's a Google search string for reference: "Insignia - Smart Speaker no longer working in any group or stereo"")

Also, Tasha or Kyle, just want to ask my question again: Are you aware of any continued support for these devices with respect to planned firmware updates?

(It's okay to say "no" if you don't know. Smiley Happy)

Re: NS-CSPGASP cast feature requires restart daily

Hi there, anville,

If you prefer not to attempt power cycling your router, you may wish to try factory resetting your speaker, and then performing the necessary updates to firmware and such. If this still doesn't resolve the issue, you may wish to connect with Insignia support at (877) 467-4289 or here. At this time, I would not expect further updates for this device, but the support teams may have more information.

Re: NS-CSPGASP cast feature requires restart daily

Hi Tasha,

I never said that I prefered not to try, just that I couldn't yet try.

As the problem presented itself again this morning, I did as you suggested, and rebooted my wifi router, and it made no difference.  The Google Nest mini and the Chromecasts audio both were able to play, but the Insignia speaker did not.

In the past I've tried to do a factory reset on the speaker to solve this, but that was not effective, either.

It's unfortunate that you think there will be no further updates.

I see that in may posts the "Social Media Specialists" that provided contact info for Insignia support.  I'm confused, because I thought that *you* were Insignia support! Smiley Happy What is your role then?
