Insignia NS-TO12SS8 Toaster Oven First-Time Setup Instructions Does Not Work

Model: Insignia NS-TO12SS8

 

The User Manual says to do the following before first-time use:

 

"Step 4. Set the temperature knob to Toast and the timer to 15 minutes. 
This will burn off any oils remaining inside the toaster oven. Note: The oven may smoke during this process. This is normal for a new oven,
and it will not last more than 10-15 minutes"

This does nothing. The power does not come on.

 

Turning the Temperature knob to a baking temperature or broil turns the oven on, or turning the Temperature knob to Toast and turning the Toast Accu-Timer will turn the oven on.

 

But turning the Temperature knob to Toast and turning the Timer knob to 15 minutes does nothing.

 

I think the user manual instructions for first-time use are incorrect. Please advise.

I just got this email reply from Insignia Products after several back-and-forths about this issue. I was correct -- the user manual instructions for first-time use is wrong!

 

"Hello Scott,

I am sorry for any issue you may be facing with your Toaster. I have consulted the instructions and you are correct. Though it is not stated, it is necessary to also turn the knob for the Accu-timer. Your toaster will then start to run and you can let is sit for the 10-15 minutes to get rid of the oils inside. I apologize for any confusion and inconvenience this may have caused you.
