Insignia NS-HW502 (power strip) 30 feet restriction ?

Hi. This question is here bc there wasn’t a “Power Strip” section on the Best Buy forum.

In my Insignia NS-HW502 box a slip of paper reads:
“Safety Precautions
DO NOT install this device if there is not at least 30 feet (10 meters) or more of wire between the electrical outlet and electrical service panel.”

The electrical service panel (on the outside of our home) is right behind the indoor electrical outlet that I need a power strip for.

What is the purpose of this safety precaution? There must be some reasoning behind this 30 feet of this in-the-walls cable length minimum. I need to decide if I should return this power strip; it works extremely well so far. Smiley Happy (After installation I found the paper note in its box and instantly uninstalled and boxed my power strip.)

If this Safety Precaution was so important I would think Best Buy would have the 30 feet restriction on the outside of the box. But, I don’t know. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Smiley Happy

Re: Insignia NS-HW502 (power strip) 30 feet restriction ?

The power strip is made by Insignia... so how does contacting Rocketfish Support make sense? I’m sure it does make sense; they ask for a Rocketfish product number; does Insignia have a support number too?

Thank you for welcoming me and responding! 😊

John-BBY, my response was deleted... it’s not here anymore. 😔 I didn’t bookmark that url I shared to help others understand the answer to my question. 😞 Someone else may be looking here for the same answer and I just wanted to help others make a more informed choice about purchasing this Insignia power strip. It’s missing a crucial resistor.

Thank you so much for your help John-BBY! 😊 I guess I’ll call the Insignia help line and ask if any of their power supplies are made with an included resistor.

Re: Insignia NS-HW502 (power strip) 30 feet restriction ?

None of Insignia or Rocket Fish’s power strips have an included resistor and so require that 30 feet of cable, be in the wall, between the outlet and the electrical service box.

This required length of cable, in the wall, helps reduce a surge’s power to a level that the surge protector can handle. If a tiny resistor would be included, that would nullify the 30 foot of cable requirement.

Found a power strip by RIDGID, at Home Depot, that solves my problem. Smiley Very Happy
