We purchased a new Insignia 5 cu ft chest freezer in March 2020. It worked like a charm until last night when it stopped cooling. We tried unplugging it for a few minutes, replugging it back in and the compressor would not start. We had to pull all our food out of it (this was a pain) and move it to our other fridge/freezer. I noticed when I tried the thermostat, you could hear the click of it switching on, but still the compressor would not start. We have proper clearances around the freezer, and as mentioned, it has worked fine since March.
When I woke up in the morning, I plugged the freezer back in, and it started cooling again.
My concern is, I don't want to lose $100s of dollars worth of food if this happens again. We were lucky to notice this before everything thawed badly.
What is the process for when this happens?
