Best Buy and Geek Squad are partnering with the Women’s High Tech Coalition in the first-ever Geek Squad Academy-Women’s High Tech Coalition (WHTC) Internship Program, a paid summer Congressional internship for two female college students. This is truly the outcome of the passion, aspirations and drive of an extremely dedicated group of Geek Squad Agents and Best Buy employees.

Our goal is to inspire young women to combine hands-on learning in public policy with a passion for science and technology. The internship program is aimed at students looking to spend the summer working on science and technology-related public policy and learning more about Capitol Hill. (The $3,000 stipend is pretty nice too.)

The evolution of Geek Squad Academy into internships is the realization of a lifelong dream of mine. Back in 2007, we created the first-ever Geek Squad Summer Academy at Chicago’s Mother McAuley High School to demystify technology, help youth in our communities, assist non profit partners and unleash the power of our employees.

Since then, Geek Squad Summer Academy has expanded into a nationwide program for middle- and high-school level girls and boys. And now this summer, we morph again to include female college students in a first-ever internship program.

Geek Squad Academy brought me an awareness and perspective that I might have missed: technology is the future. It’s the future of our economy, of our country and of us all. With more people pursuing college degrees and fewer jobs available in this tough environment, students are looking for ways to stand out from the crowd. There’s no better time to give students of all ages an opportunity to learn more by attending Geek Squad Summer Academy camps or by giving them exposure to policy-making through Geek Squad Academy-WHTC internships.

We’re proud that our “little” program is embracing a growing population of students and migrating to Congress, and we look forward to seeing the impact on the amazing women who participate. You can learn more about or apply for the Geek Squad Academy-WHTC Internship Program here. The deadline is May 6.
