Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

I’m so angry and disappointed, I just received my Metroid Dread Special Edition in a cheap envelope so you can imagine the condition that the Metroid box came in. It’s crushed, dents everywhere Smiley Sad
This is the second time that I have this problem ordering Limited/Collector Edition stuff with BestBuy, my first experience was when I received my The Last Of Us Part II Limited Edition in a cheap envelope as well, Steelbook was out of the box all crushed and with dents. I didn’t returned it since at the time it was OOS.
But I had enough this is the last time I bought Limited Editions at BestBuy. I’m angry I wish I could return it and get my money back but this thing is SOLD OUT everywhere, so I have to deal with a crushed box Smiley Sad
When is BestBuy going to understand the need of shipping these things in a Box instead of envelopes, don’t be cheap. We pay money for these things, is not like I paid $30.
I wish I could attach pictures but I don’t see any option.
I’m waiting for Amazon to have it in stock hopefully, so I can order from them. I know they take care of stuff like this.

Did anyone else got their Special Edition in a envelope?

Re: Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

I concur, I heard people who got their packages shipped were damaged and this is a good box.

Was not surprised to see my package in the same condition.

I can't believe Best Buy is that stupid to treat collector's items like this. That's unacceptable.

[ Edited ]

I thought I was the only one but then I read the reviews that people left on the product page and 90% were complaining about their boxes damaged because BestBuy sent them in a cheap envelope.
Also I saw videos on Twitter and Tik Tok of people showing how they got their packages.

See this video for example:

And you’re right, I hate to say it but their shipping department needs to be accountable for this; are they stupid enough to send “Collectors/Limited” items in envelopes. Cmon we buy these thing to keep em forever.

Re: Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

It's the same deal with me. I'm insanely frustrated with the lack of care that was used when shipping my special edition, especially considering alternative stores had no issues with protecting their shipments. Best Buy was one of the very few that decided to use a bubble mailer. It has been a week and Best Buy has not addressed this issue.

A bubble mailer is not suffienct protection for a high-value item like this, and I would like a replacement sent or remimbursement.

Re: Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

Ok so they deleted my post because I was using profanity.

But want to let you guys know that I went through bestbuy and I was able to get an exchange.
The guy from costumer service was nice and even him didn’t understand why are they sending things like this in envelopes. He even put a note saying to ship in a box.

Long story… I received my exchange yesterday and it came in the same cheap envelope, box crushed and with dents. 😔

I had enough with BestBuy, this is the last time I give them my money for a Collectors edition.

Re: Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

Just my thoughts.

If special editions are important never opt for shipping. In store pick up only.

At least that is what I do. You can physicaly inspect the Steel book right then and there.

On a different note.

You can buy your special editions anywhere you want.  But unless you pick them up they will be subjected to the same shipping and the same carriers.

However, as a suggestion to the forum suggestion site. Maybe it would be a good suggestion to have the customer opt for Special Packaging and pay $7 to $15 extra to ensure it is better protected.

Re: Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

I ordered 2 copies, 1 to play and other for collection. Both arrived dented and damaged as they were squeezed into a single bubble mailer, probably the same size that most peeople had their single copy shipped in. It was also a bit difficult to even remove them.  No decals were included. As of my comment, it seems decals are now automatically added when adding the regular game to cart (can't check the SE as it is sold out).  Additionally, one copy does not have the circle sticker seal over the top of the box so it may even have been opened and tampered with.

Has anyone been able to receive help regarding their SE?

Re: Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

Yes I called Last Monday and the guy from costumer service was very helpful and he was very frustrated as well and didn’t understand why they were sending these Special/Collector editions in bubble mailers.
He was able to get me a Brand New SE, he even sent them a note to ship it in a box but arrived same as the first one.

I was lucky enough to order an extra one from Target yesterday so I’m hoping their shipping department has more common sense than BestBuy.

I been trying Amazon as well but as soon as I go to check out it’s Sold Out and I know they send in boxes.

Hey all!

Thanks for posting these concerns about damage to your Metroid Dread Special Edition cases sustained during shipping. I know from personal experience how it can feel to find damage on a collectible SteelBook case, so I certainly understand where you're coming from.

Going forward, if you are still in need of assistance, I would like to take a closer look at your individual orders and situations to see what may be possible to help. To allow this, please send me a private message with your full name, phone number, email address, and order number. I look forward to hearing from you!

Re: Metroid Dread Special Edition - Angry and Disappointed

The SteelBook was not damaged. It was the Special Edition box. The game comes in an oversized, heavily stylized box. This box is a collector's item, it's not merely packaging for the Special Edition.

Also, your point of "you can buy your special editions anywhere you want" is a bit incorrect as this item was so insanely hard to obtain that I was lucky I got an order in Best Buy in the first place. It wasn't like I shopped around or anything. Preorders for this were up for all of about 2 minutes before they sold out. And other retailers did not subject this product to the same shipping. Not in the slightest. My buddy bought his copy from Gamestop and it was sent in a sturdy box filled with air padding to prevent damage, and arrived in near-mint condition. Best Buy however sent the item in a bubble mailer, which is why the damage occured.
