So I ordered the dreamer edition back in June for an in store pickup on the release date of 9/20. I went into the store to pickup and was informed by a best buy employee that they didn't receive the shipment. I checked my order status online and it states: We're sorry, but the store you chose for pickup no longer has this item in stock. I called Best Buy yesterday and was told that there is nothing they can do because the item is not in stock.
My questions are, if best buy knew that stock was limited wouldn't orders be fullfilled based on date of purchase regardless if it was in store pickup or shipment? It appears that those who chose shipment received their orders and those that opted for in store pickup did not.....hmmmm.
I was really looking forward to playing this game this weekend and regret choosing in store pickup. The funny thing is that Best Buy recommends in store pickup to save time and money

I haven't followed it up with the store yet, just the 800 #. I also was planning on getting some clarity from a manager. Bummer that it happened to you as well. Best Buy has always been good, so it kind of surprised me. I like to flash my elite plus status but that doesn't seem to get me any special treatment

Elite plus unite!! Maybe best buy will make this right and offer us the standard game at a very good discount
The person I spoke with offered to either cancel the order or wait and see if stock arrives.......not very helpful, but no other chose I guess.

I plan to check with the store today and hopefully get a status update on the dreamer edition. I'm sure its a loss cause but hoping for some acknowledgement that BB messed up the allocation of product. I think the game spent too much time in the shipment availablity which must of pulled from the store pickup resources. They probably went crazy on fullfilling the shipment orders and then realized how many people opted for store pickup.
What is frustrating to me is that they are not reaching out via email and admitting their mistake.

Thank you all for reaching out to us! I know how exciting the release for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening: Dreamer Edition was, having played Zelda games even when I was a kid. We aim to ensure all pre-orders we accept are fulfilled in a timely and efficient manner, and understand that this has not been the pleasant experience we strive for our customers to have.
Please know that we took pre-orders based on quantities promised by Nintendo. Ultimately though, this ended up being more limited than anticipated, and we are unable to guarantee the fulfillment of remaining orders due to the lack of availability. Going forward, you are welcome to work with your local store to see if they'll be able to fulfill your pre-order. Alternatively, you may cancel your pre-order and order the standard edition which is available for purchase in physical or digital formats here.
I know this may not be the news many of you were hoping for. Please know that your feedback is always welcomed and taken seriously as we are always looking for ways we may improve. As always, if you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.
