Can I expect to pick up my preordered The Last of Us Part II on June 18th before midnight, or will I have to wait until the game officially releases on June 19th?

There is lots of anticipation for Last of Us Part II, especially with how good the first one was, and I think a lot of us want to see Ellie’s continuing story!

As of right now, we don’t have any definitive information regarding an early release for this game.  As we get closer to release date, hopefully we’ll know more.

Hi all,

I called my local Best Buy (DeKalb, IL) and asked if they were planning on doing a curbside release for TLOU II. I understand that a midnight release may not be possible with all that’s going on, so it’d be nice if the stores could at least provide copies before they close on Thursday night. The support rep at my store asked his manager, and he was told that a decision has to come down from corporate for that to happen. Best Buy, please make that call!

So your asking to have a copy of a game the day before it is officially released? Why not just wait until the next morning and go down and get it?

Best Buy often did launch parties at midnight before COVID-19, Some stores would even give out copies at 9:00pm before a game releases. This isn’t some special circumstance or anything. And I’ll be working all day on Friday, then I’d have to go get it, come home, and download and install the game. By that point, I wouldn’t be able to play it until Saturday. It’s just be nice to have it ready to go on Friday.

They usually don’t announce these types of events until the week before, so you’d get a definitive answer tomorrow. If you search the Best Buy website, every version except the standard is sold out. It’s sold more than FF7 Remake and Doom did in preorders and it got an early release. Be patient guys. I’m sure they will okay releasing it at 3PM on the 18th.

From what I'm being told, we will not be able to have an early release for this title, due to our shortened store hours.  We can only release after 9:00 p.m, and currently, our stores close at 6:00 p.m.  

The game should be available on release day.
