Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Early Launch

Worse case is I just download it from Sony store. Amazon and Best Buy have really dropped the ball. I could see if they didn't physically have it but this is a joke and there isn't any communication going on. I mean did the Covid destroy the email at Best Buy?

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Early Launch

I'll have someone go over the communication tomorrow and see if there have been any updates. If we could get a response from corporate in here that'd be great too. There was at some point an event calendar that showed an early release, but that's no longer listed.

At the end of the day the only company has the ability to allow an early release is Square Enix, it's very possible that they mandated no one do an early release since most Gamestop stores are closed to make it more "fair" for other companies that don't have the option for an early release.

If I find anything out I'll let you guys know tomorrow, or hopefully we can get a response from someone that handles these forums.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Early Launch

I just called the store in Easy Orange and they said they are not aware of this as well.

I guess I'll show up and see what happens.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Early Launch

Sorry for my typo! I called the EAST Orange in Southern California.

These early releases are always kind of hit or miss in terms of communication even when there isn't a pandemic.

At Death Stranding's early Thursday night release they would only let people pick up the collector's edition and told everyone that was there for the standard edition that they had to come back on Friday. Which makes zero sense obviously...

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Early Launch

Another speculation I have that I am leaning more towards is that rather than Square Enix stopping Best Buy, is that the shipments for the game are in flux in states like California and New York (Southern California resident here). There's a chance corporate took down the event from the calendar company wide because they cannot guarantee the game will make it to stores in every state by early release day. For those that have them, they lucked out and can proceed.

I don't mean to add a pessimistic outlook, I am genuinely anticipating this release like all of us. I am just very tired of being disappointed by the lack of communication reaching local stores is all. I have been left on hold for 30 minutes at a time, calling the same 3 local stores (30 mile radius) and they have all said the same thing: they've heard nothing and will not be participating.

I went ahead and called the 1-888 number too but the agent said they've never heard of this promotion either. He was nice enough to take my suggestion to search this forum up and read the comments over the phone, but said it seems like no one is being informed.

I know I said all that, but I also want to thank ChaosLionHeart for being so responsive trying to assuage our fears. It really does mean a lot. Same goes to SeanBBY, the Social Media Specialist. Sounds like ChaosLionHeart you'll be following up to see if communication is happening in corporate to reach local stores, so thank you for this as well. Cheers to everyone on this thread and hoping we see this early release yet.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Early Launch

I'm curious...has anyone called a store and gotten confirmation that their store is participating?

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Early Launch

I'm going to call tomorrow and if they know nothing of the early release, I'll just cancel my order and go digital so I can start the ridiculously large download. I wish I had just let it ship to me. I didn't mind getting it Friday evening. But by the time I realized there might be problems it was too late to switch. It's too much of a drive to justify getting it later than I can digitally. I'll let you guys know what I'm told (specifically for Charleston, WV if there are any lurkers from the area in this thread).
