Did any consoles actually go up? I saw one or two people claim they got an order in, but it seems that the site crashed almost immediately at 9AM.

Did Best Buy sell their entire allotment? Would love it if we could hear from an employee. Everyone’s really in the dark on this.

Well if two people claim they got an order in, then I would say that they were availble.

However, there were probably a lot more people trying to get on all at the same time then there were numbers available.

They were definitely available, as were Xbox consoles. They were snatched up quickly, and there was a way to wait for inventory in case one of the snagged units were not paid for prior to finally selling out.

I was able to add 1 to my cart but could not check out because Best Buy then said there were no units within 250 miles of my location. If that was correct, then why allow it to be added to my cart? I tried calling Customer Service (rather lack of service), but after an hr I left my number for a call back. It's been 3 hrs so far and no call back.

Because it was available, but the cart does not lock in the item. I'll make an example, numbers are completely fabricated and not any kind of estimate. I don't have access to any of that data. If 500 people add them to their cart and there are only 300 available, then the first 300 to complete their payment get a unit.  If you get an error message or that it's no longer available in your area, then the available units have been exhausted.

Why doesn't the cart lock in the item, it sounds like your company has doesn't have a good grasp of inventory. It is very disturbing that a company that supposedly prides itself on technology issues, uses the numbers are "completely fabricated", great way to run a business.

I would venture to guess that every successful purchase on these systems so far are happy they got one.  Since there aren't enough to go around, I don't know of an outcome that would satisfy everyone. They seem to have an excellent grasp of inventory, they were out within 250 miles of your location and you were notified as such instead of the system allowing you to complete checkout.  

I wish there were enough to go around, but just like the Cabbage Patch Kids, or Furby, or Wii, Playstation 2, SNES, etc. there is a short supply.  Hopefully this will all get better after the holidays end.  Hopefully by early next year the systems will just be sitting on the shelf ready to buy.  Until then, though, it will be luck of the draw.  It's kinda like buying a lottery ticket and getting upset that you didn't win.

You wouldn't want that, nor would Best Buy.  Items sitting in carts, unavailable for purchase by others and not yet paid for.  That also allows things like bots to lock the items faster than you can get one, then a real person come by at a leisurely pace and pay for those.  Nope, I like the system how it is.  I too was unsuccessful in getting a console today, but I'm still going to sleep soundly tonight.
