Best Buy says my coupon is expired?

So today I bought a new video game called splatoon 2 for the switch. I came in using a $5 off printed coupon from renewing my gamersclub membership. Now the cashier said that my coupon is expired and I guess decided to use my rewards certificate instead. I wanted to use the gamersclub coupon though since that one expires first. It also shows in the same paper that it expires on august 11 2017. I'm definitly dissapointed because I didn't even want to use my certificate in the first place which I believe expired on septender. I just hope there's a way to make this right. I can provide my gamersclub coupon number if needed.

Re: Best Buy says my coupon is expired?

Hi jcoolnarv –

Thanks for becoming a GCU Member and for reaching out to us on this. I’m sorry to hear one of our store associates didn’t accept your valid coupon like they should have, and caused this issue. That said I’ll be happy to advise you on the best course of action to use your coupon and get your rewards certificate back.

The best way to accomplish this is to return to the store and request they process a return/rebuy of the game, which should return the certificate to your account, and let you apply the coupon on the repurchase. If you’ve already opened your game no need to worry, as opened software can be exchanged for an identical copy under our policies, so there should be no issue processing this. If you have any other questions please let us know.

Happy Gaming!

Ok so I did open it, I have 15 days exchange right? But when I exchange it how will I get refunded so I can use the other coupon?

Hi jcoolnarv –

Correct, you have 15 days from the date of purchase. The transaction should be processed as a single exchange, so you won’t be refunded. Essentially in the system it will return the original transaction and give you your rewards certificate back, then apply the remaining credit towards the purchase of the same game making it cost $5. At that point the coupon can be applied to make the transaction $0.

Hey, just got back from vacation! So all I need to do is exchange for a new game and it'll automatically give me my certificate back? and then give them the gamers club coupon?

Hi jcoolnarv –

You should bring in your existing copy of Splatoon 2 with receipt and head directly to your store’s customer service counter. There let them know you want to apply the coupon to the transaction and get your certificate back, and they should be able to process the transaction accordingly.

Re: Best Buy says my coupon is expired?

Alright so I went today. Basically they refunded and let me rebuy. Although I'm pretty sure I was charged like $1 extra??? They said it could take 30-45 days for my points to show back up. But I'm pretty sure I just got them now? Why would I be charged a dollar extra anyway?

Re: Best Buy says my coupon is expired?

Hi jcoolnarv –

I’m glad to hear the store was able to get things taken care of. That said it’s a bit strange to hear you may have been charged $1 extra. I’m unable to say if that happened or why without reviewing both transactions, so if you have them please send me a private message with the customer service pins (found on your receipts) from your original and the exchange transactions. You can message me by selecting the blue button in my signature.

Hope to hear from you soon,
