Clarification regarding what qualifies towards spend thresholds for Elite / Elite Plus

I was hoping to get clarification on what counts towards the spend amounts required to attain / retain Elite or Elite Plus.  I'm clear on the fact that you can earn points on the purchase of Best Buy gift cards but not when you actually redeem them, which makes sense.  However, I thought that any payments made using gift cards cound towards the $1500 / $3500 thresholds needed to maintain Elite or Elite Plus status.  I'm asking because I recently purchased an appliance primariliy using a gift card and did not receive points as expected but also did not receive any credit to the spending threshold either, which I was not expecting.   I looked through the FAQ and program terms and couldn't find a specific mention on this so hoping someone here can provide clarity.  I completely understand not obtaining points when using gift cards as that would essentially be double dipping; however, I don't understand why what I spend doesn't count towards the spending thresholds.  Whether I spend $1500 / $3500 in a year using cash, credit, gift cards or some combination of the three shouldn't matter from my perspective but I can't find anything explcitly noting as much.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Re: Clarification regarding what qualifies towards spend thresholds for Elite / Elite Plus

Hello Bill,

It looks like the forums may have already provided you an answer to your question. If they have not, then I'd be happy to inform you on how it works.

As you stated, the initial purchase of the gift card does apply towards your spending threshold for reaching Elite and Elite Plus status. However, using the gift card on a purchase of any kind does not. This is done to avoid a sort of "double-dip" of the spending process. As an example, if you buy a $1,500 gift card, then that amount is posted to your spending threshold. However, using it to buy $1,500 worth of items is not as the initial $1,500 in spending has already been credited to the account. This applies to points as well.

I hope this has helped clarify your question. Please let me know if you have any other concerns.

Kindly,
