Annual Spending for Status Changes

Hello,

I am currently an Elite Plus member and have already spent enough in 2019 to gain the Elite Plus status for 2020. I just made an online purchase for a little over $500. The purchase is not slated to arrive until Jan. 4, 2020. Given that Best Buy will not charge my Best Buy credit card until the product has shipped (predicting at or around Jan. 2, 2020), will this purchase count towards the total spent in 2020 or will it count towards 2019 since the order was placed today (Dec. 30, 2019)? Please advise.

Best,

L

Re: Annual Spending for Status Changes

Hi, LorenzoEmpyrean,

Welcome back to the Forums!

I love being a My Best Buy Elite member and being able to take advantage of the special perks it comes with, and I imagine that you enjoy the same being an Elite Plus member. I appreciate you looking at wanting to continue that status with us into the new year, and hope to see you shopping with us soon. In regard to your question, though, the order should count toward the calendar year that it was placed in, so that would be 2019. Although the final charge is placed when the item ships, the My Best Buy account would go by the creation date of the order.

I hope this helps, and please be sure to let us know of any other questions or concerns you might have.

Best Regards,

Re: Annual Spending for Status Changes

Thank you for the response Cameron!

*Sigh* Wishful thinking; I wished that was not the case. However, would it be acceptable that - once received - I go to Best Buy with the item, return the item and then re-purchase the item such that a my old 2019 transaction is canceled and a new 2020 transaction is made? Please advise.

Best,

L

Re: Annual Spending for Status Changes

Hey there,

I see what you're saying. That would be a possibility only if the entire transaction is refunded back to the card, and then purchased anew. That would mean that if any promotions you'd received at the time of purchase are not longer available, they could not be applied to the new transaction. If the transaction is processed as an exchange instead of a refund, it will still be based off the original purchase date of 2019.

I hope this helps! Let me know what other thoughts you might have!

All the best,
