Imstaller damaged outlet and possibly broke machines

I bought a washer dryer set for my parents with all recommended additions and got them to deliver, install and haul away old machines. I found out from my mother that the machines stopped working and she noticed the plug has a dark stain where the prongs are. I told her to send me a picture of the plug and outlet. I see that there is a burn mark on the plug as well as the wall outlet. It turns out the installer plugged in both machines to one outlet using an extension cord.

Now I have potential electrical damage to my parents house and non working machines. This could have literally burned their house down and injured them or worse. I am extremely angry about this. I will be calling the customer service tomorrow when they are open. I also bought the warranty with the machines don’t know what that will do since it was the installer that did this.

You would have to file a claim with Sedgewick , their insurance brokers for claims on damaged outlets or property. 


I found this information from 2020. Maybe it's still valid. I have no clue.

I can't begin to imagine how I would react given the circumstances you describe. Certainly it's not the goal to create an unsafe situation in your home or the home of your parents and I regret sincerely that this may have been the case.
