Delivery & installation

I purchased a Samsung Dryer through Bestbuy.com, I bought this dryer because of the steam feature, however when they delivered the dryer, I was told the steam feature won't work because the washer and dryer have to be side by side, how was I to know this? The install reps left all kinds of tape on the dryer for me to take off and its not easy to get off, however why am I responsible to take the tape off, I did spend $1,100 on this dryer. And the biggest problem is that I walked in my laundry room to check on the clothes in the dryer and it felt really hot in there, so I looked behind the dryer and noticed the vent fell off, then I noticed that the installers duct taped the vent on, and I purchased a vent and gas line with the dryer, however they did not use it at all, instead duct taped the old one on, I thought I was to receive a professional install, instead I received shady work that ended up being a fire hazard, good thing I was home and caught the error before a fire could break out, I've messaged Best Buy and no response, hopefully I can get something resolved through here.

Re: Delivery & installation

Not really a fire hazard but definitely annoying.

The dryer doesn't have to be by the washer to work, the issue is that it needs water to make steam and they usually split it off the washer water. If you have another way to run water to the dryer it can be anywhere.

Re: Delivery & installation

The issue isn't whether or not it's a fire hazard, the issue is that the installers were supposed to hook it up the correct way with the new vent that I purchased with the dryer and as far as the steam goes, the installers should have known that and should have hooked it up, their job responsibility is all of the above, thats what they get paid to do, that's what I, the customer, pays them to do.

Re: Delivery & installation

They can't hook up the steam without a water valve within 8' or so of the dryer. It would take an actual plumber.

Re: Delivery & installation

Again, not the issue, the issue is had I known that before buying it, I would not have purchased it. If you can't help me with the unprofessionalism of the install and provide me with a solution to the problem, then I'm not sure why you continue to comment.

Re: Delivery & installation

It's a public forum.... Obviously the dryer vent part is Thier fault,

The steam part is your fault. Steam requires water... That's like blaming them that you purchased a fridge with an ice maker and it's Thier fault you don't have a water hook up for it.

That bring said I was attempting to help.you by informing you that all you need is a water source for the steam part to work. Maybe there is one close by? It's literally just a garden hose connection on the dryer.

Re: Delivery & installation

Generally the washer and dryer are located side by side, in these instances you use the y-adapter and separate longer hose to run from the water valve behind the washer over to the dryer. Water is required to make steam, so without having walked your house prior to selling the item the sales person would not have known about your issue.

As for reusing the vent line, generally a foil tape is recommended for securing the vent. Do you have enough distance between your dryer and the wall to use a semi-rigid vent line? This is generally the reason for not being able to use the kit Best Buy sells. We use a semi rigid vent line to prevent kinks that would cause lint buildup and blockages. If your washer and dryer gave each other in a corridor laundry room, this is likely the problem.

Re: Delivery & installation

Definitely enough room between the wall and dryer, my guess is they were being lazy during install, hence all the tape left on the dryer and the use of duct tape, and as far as the steam goes, the installers should be prepared for anything, especially because they didn't do a walk through before I made the purchase, not to mention, I've never had anyone do a walk through prior to buying a major appliance, thanks for the info though.
