Hi - I want to buy an Air Conditioner for a cousin of mine. I live in NYC but we do not live close to each other. I have picked out the Best Buy AC and talked in person at a BB store and on the phone to BB. My cousin lives in a Co-op. She really needs an AC soon - her old one is broken.
Best Buy People have varying info and levels of knowledge on the phone, in person and on website as to getting delivery and installation. A very helpful home theatre blue shirted gentleman at Union Square BB seemed to have it correct as of a couple of days ago that such a building would need to send a COI to me, I would need to forward it to some BB email address (the salesperson would give me?) and that person would fill in the rest and send it back to my cousin's building (the Super). From what the super told me (see next paragraph) - I would need to supply BB with some of the info to put into the form (I am not clear at this point that BB really uses the building's form because some of the handwritten info or indication of what info should be would need erasing first).
I finally got from the superintendent of my cousin's building that the 10,000 BTU AC I want to buy will fit my cousin's window and that the building does require a CUSTOM Certificate of Insurance. The Super emailed me a sample showing where extra info is needed, some of that info (formal name of "Add'l Insured" - the Co-op and another corporation (i guess parent Corp?) and I would need to supply to BB some extra info like that the "certificate holder" (my cousin's name and address would go here the Super said).
So can I be given some idea of the turn around time if I buy this AC online tonight or in person at a BB store tomorrow and some better clarity of info (I was helped by nice BB person on the phone last night who was trying to look up COI info b/c she said the wait time to talk to Delivery and Installation at that time would be about an hour.) I am deeply concerned that if I buy this AC online or at the store that this COI business will mean my cousin will be roasting in almost 90 degree heat after recent hip surgery and the AC will not get in her window. The Super did say that if all else fails I can have the AC delivered to her lobby without a COI and he would take it from there - but he may not get to it for days and it might open my cousin to liability - she would I think have to sign off to take all responsibility.
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SUGGEST THAT BB HAVE ON ITS WEBSITE NOT JUST A BOILER PLATE COI BUT A CUSTOM COI FORM AND INSTRUCTIONS AS TO WHAT WOULD PROBABLY BE NEEDED FOR A CUSTOM COI SINCE IT SEEMS SO MANY BUILDINGS REQUIRE THIS IN NYC.
At this rate I've spent days trying to figure this all out. Please kindly help.

I am replying to my own message because it now seems that Best Buy does not do installations where my cousin lives in Queens even though it is a very populated part of NYC and she lives in a building. I don't know why this would be. Her zip code is 11375. So the whole COI is irrelevant I guess - the Superintendent said I can get the AC just delivered to the building and he will install it when the building management allows him the time. Of course I worry about my elder cousin having to sign for liability for all this work done by the Co-op employees. Wish Best Buy would install ac's in Forest Hills Queens.

It just took me 10 minutes to figure out how to get to create a new post. So BB does not install AC's in the most populous borough of NYC, Queens, so I at least figured I would expedite shipping so my elderly cousin gets her AC I'm getting her by this Friday 8/23. But in checkout it did not give me any options about time window for delivery. Her building only takes delivery 8:30-4:30. Also since a COI is irrelevant since BB will not install I need to tell somebody that they should just deliver the AC to the lobby and then the Superintendent will take it from there (for a fee he will uninstall the old and put in the new). It is not right that installation is included in delivery but BB does not install in some zip codes.

Welcome to the Best Buy Community forums. Thanks so much for reaching out to us about this.
I know you no longer need that CoI, but I want to let you know that your local Best Buy should have been able to request one for you. We can also provide one if you call us at (888) BESTBUY or (888) 237-8289. I appreciate you feedback about having a form on our sire to request one as well. I can't promise we can do that, but we're always looking for ways to make things easier for our customers.
We only offer installation in select areas for air conditioners. it can vary depending on a number of things, including local ordinances. If your cousin lives in an area where the service isn't offered, I'm afraid we won't be able to provide it.
I'd be happy to look into that order for you to see if I can get you any details about the time, and to see if it can be adjusted if needed. Please send me a private message through the link in my signature below this post. I'll need your name, email address, phone number, and order number to get started.
