Beware of delivery scams

Just putting this out there, in case it helps someone.

I bought a washer and dryer a month ago for delivery in Massachusetts.  On the day of the appointment the delivery people left a message on my phone but didn't ring on the door.  I had to reschedule for two weeks later, and the online system required that I make two separate appointments.  It took 35minutes of holding on the phone before I could talk to someone and get the delivery scheduled as a single appointment.

On delivery day, the two guys who came told me "this is quite narrow, we'll likely scratch the washer and dryer".  They did.

They installed the dryer improperly: they didn't use the angled tubes that came with the exhaust pipe, and instead used only the flexible tube.

They installed the washer improperly: the didn't fasten the inlet tubes properly, so we had water leak and damage the floor after about a week of use.

I had to ask them to level the feet of the washer and dryer; they didn't do it at first.

Before they left, they asked me to pay for the delivery. I told them it was free with the purchase; they said it was "free on Best Buy's side", but they were "a separate contractor" and I had to pay them.  We argued for about 2 miutes and finally one of them said "what do I tell him" to the other in Spanish and the other said (in Spanish as well) "Never mind about that", so the first guy turned back to me and said "it's just a joke, the delivery is already paid for".

I tried to call Best Buy about this, but the hold times are just too long.  The online chat is useless too, they told me to call the phone number.  I'm not going to spend hours on hold to report a complaint (tip: if it says "less than five minutes", call later: "less than 5 minutes" mean at least 30 or 40 minutes).  The call-back system doesn't work, either, as far as I can tell (I tried it twice, and never received the callbacks.

I hope I fixed the leak properly; otherwise, I'm not sure how I'll get in touch with the Best Buy folks (really, there's no email to contact them?)

Re: Beware of delivery scams

Good afternoon xyzjkl,

Thank you for choosing Best Buy for your purchase of your washer and dryer. We also appreciate the time you’ve taken out of your day to post to our community about your delivery. I apologize for our overall delayed response due to being a bit busier than usual here on our community, but I’d be happy to gather some more details to see how we might be able to help.

As shared here on BestBuy.com delivery is free for a washer and dryer. It’s concerning to hear that our third-party partner may have asked for payment in addition to the installation issues you had noted. Can you please send us a private message with your full name, phone number, email address, and order number? We’d be happy to document your experience here at our Corporate Office plus discuss the options available at this time to assist you further. You’re welcome to send us a private message with the information I had noted above by choosing the blue button in my signature. We look forward to hearing from you!

Respectfully,
