Appliance Delivery Extortion

1. Went to Best Buy, Paramus NJ on 2/4/19.

2. Purchased a Bosch Dishwasher (SHEM78W55N) with 3y Svc: $1123.53

3. Per receipt, Customer Service PIN: {removed per forum guidelines}

4. Delivery scheduled for Wed, 2/6/19.

5. On 2/6/19 @ 11a, an Enterprise rental van arrived at my house.

6. Two men came to the door with tool kits. Neither spoke English beyond a few words.

7. One guy opened the cabinet under the sink, took a quick look and said "$150".

8. Due to his extremely limited English, a confused exchange followed. I didn't understand why $150.

9. Man calls someone. Hands me phone. Woman speaks English. Hear kids in the background.

10. Woman (boss?) explained my shutoff valves were "no good" and needed to be replaced. $150.

11. I asked her if these men were licensed plumbers. She says she can't give me a license number.

12. I considered this extortion and refused to pay and refused delivery.

13. The men left, having never removed the dishwasher from their van (if it was even there).

14. I called my regular plumber who came to inspect the valves. He found them all in perfect order.

15. Later on 2/6/19, I returned to Paramus store and demanded a refund. They refused.

16. I was told the unit was "not checked back in" by the delivery company.

17. Store personnel explained the delivery company was a sub-contractor. Admitted past problems.

18. Two days later (2/8/19), your store still refuses to refund because the unit wasn't returned.

 

So here we are. Best Buy refuses to refund my $1123.53.

This is an egregious example of retail deception, extortion and theft.

I rightly refused to pay for unnecessary repairs done by unqualified day laborers.

As trust has been destroyed and you employ extortionist subcontractors,

I decline to complete this transaction and demand a full refund. Immediately.

 

I'm curious if this business plan is approved by Corporate or just renegades at the Paramus store?

Welcome to our forums, albeit under such unfortunate circumstances.  From what you’ve described, the delivery of your dishwasher is far from the level of service we expect our customers to go through, and I apologize for any frustration this experience has caused. 

 

I’d like to make sure we’re addressing your concerns and getting this resolved as soon as possible, however, I’ll need to gather some additional information from you to do so.  If you could use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature to send me the following information:

This should be enough information for me to begin my research, and hopefully get this resolved as soon as possible.
